All About Hubble Space Telescope
The Hubble Space Telescope, science’s most important telescope, was launched
on April 24th, 1990 and remains in orbit today. The idea came from Lyman Spitzer
in 1946, who wrote a paper discussing the benefits of an orbital telescope.
Eventually, funding for the Hubble Telescope was approved in 1978. In the early
1980s the telescope was named after Edwin Hubble, who was the first man to
illustrate the expansion of the universe.
Almost immediately after its launch the Hubble images began to produce
picture of poor quality. It was discovered that a problem with the mirror design
was preventing clear, accurate images. After researching the problem, NASA sent a service mission to repair the
problem, and officially resolved on January 13, 1994.
