Model Spaceships have been a staple in children's rooms since the space race first began. Whether it's a sci-fi model or a faithful recreation of an actual NASA rocket ship, models make you feel connected to spacecraft and allow your imagination to put you in the place of real-life astronauts.

We've put together a list of some of our favorite model spaceships for you to choose from and hope you can get lost in space like we when we play with models.

LEGO Ideas NASA Apollo Saturn V

A work of art

If you have never had a chance to build a Lego Ideas set, I encourage you to try as soon as possible. This is not your childhood bunch of blocks you try to make look like a rocket. Each piece is specifically designed to give the most accurate representation of the rocket while still maintaining the overall look and feel of Lego.

Not only does this model show the Saturn 5 in its entirety, but it can also be broken down into the separate rocket stages, and it even has a small splashdown module and the moon lander in it. It really is an almost perfect Lego set.

Air Hogs, Star Trek U.S.S Enterprise NCC-1701-A

Be Sulu and fly the Enterprise

While this isn't a static model like most of the items here, it's just too amazing not to include in this list. This is a fully working drone in the shape of the Enterprise from the original movies. You can actually fly it around like you were Sulu!

When you aren't boldly going you can put it on a stand that will showcase what a great model it really is.

Atlantis Space Shuttle

Made in die-cast metal

All of these super cool models are great, but sometimes what you want is simpler, and more cost-effective. This five-inch model of the space shuttle Atlantis is cast in extraordinary detail, especially at its low price point. Because it is die-cast metal, the model has a good heft to it that makes it feel like a premium product. This is a great gift for a child who loves space and needs extra presents to fill out their birthday list.

Let's face it, most of us are never going to go to space, no matter how much we want to. What we can do though is celebrate those that do, and revel in humanity's greatest accomplishments. I know that was a very grandiose way of finishing this article but one of the reasons I recommend some of these models is because they remind me of the amazing things we can do if we work together and make amazing things.

I think out of all the models here, the Lego Saturn V model is the most enjoyable to own. It looks fantastic and includes all the little details that make me smile when I see them. The Lego model even has little lego inflatables to connect to the splashdown module so it can "float" safely. It's such great detail.
