Challenge your kid to walk to Mars with X5 Play

Want your kids to get more exercise? How does a walk to Mars sound? Funny as that idea may be, Xplora, the company behind Europe’s leading smartwatch for kids is launching a global (or one might even say “extraterrestrial”) initiative to get your kids up and moving.

Xplora and the X5: Play to move the world

Xplora was founded with the mission to give children a safe onboarding to digital life and a better balance between screen time and physical activity. Xplora’s CEO and founder, Sten Kirkbak described Xplora and the Goplay platform’s mission: “We believe physical activity and interaction between children and families have the power to change the world.” And Xplora is doing just that with the X5 Play.

Pitched as your child’s first smartphone, the X5 Play isn’t just a step tracker or basic smartwatch. It’s the first of its kind and is the only smartwatch with phone functionality designed for children ages 4-11 with gamification, a step tracker and Goplay access built in to help drive more physical activity. For every 1,000 steps your kid takes with their X5 Play, they’ll earn a coin for the Goplay Store

Children can also challenge themselves to top the leaderboards where the top ranking kids can win additional prizes. Each new campaign brings with it a new leaderboard and new opportunities to earn fun prizes. Previous campaigns have been themed around popular kids movies and shows, such as Tom & Jerry, Peter Rabbit, and Netflix’s animated series, Fast & Furious Spy Racers. The Tom & Jerry Campaign drove kids to walk 1.8 billion steps and the company is now setting its sights higher.

Xplora: Leading kids on a trek to Mars

The latest campaign from Xplora is deviating from movies and shows, and setting sights on a much broader frontier: Mars! The Walk to Mars: Join the Space Race campaign is a challenge to kids around the world to walk the distance to Mars ... well, sort of.

At its closest approach, Mars is 33.9 million miles/56.4 million kilometers away, meaning it would take Xplora users in aggregate a few decades to walk to Mars. While Xplora believes in promoting healthy activity throughout life, that might be a little bit much for the average 5-year-old. To give the kids a boost, every 1000 steps will count as 10 kilometers, to equate to the positive energy they receive from regular exercise. With that and other boosts, Xplora hopes the children will reach Mars in two months and even beat Elon Musk there.
