ISS Crew, Space Tourist Return Home

Three spaceflyers living aboard the International Space Station (ISS) returned to Earth early Saturday after completing their missions to the orbital laboratory.

ISS Expedition 14 commander Michael Lopez-Alegria, flight engineers Mikhail Tyurin and U.S. space tourist Charles Simonyi landed their Soyuz TMA-9 spacecraft on the Central Asian steppes of Kazakhstan at about 8:31 a.m. EDT (1231 GMT).

The landing concluded a nearly 216-day spaceflight for Lopez-Alegria -- a new NASA record -- and Tyurin, and a 14-day trek for Simonyi.

Simonyi, 58, paid between $20 million and $25 million for his trek to the ISS under an agreement with Russia's Federal Space Agency brokered by the Virginia-based firm Space Adventures.

The Expedition 14 crew leaves NASA astronaut and flight engineer Sunita Williams, Expedition 15 commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and flight engineer Oleg Kotov in charge of the ISS.
