THE LIST

The Space News Top 50 ranks the world’s space companies according to their 2002 revenues. Many firms on the list manufacture hardware for spacecraft and rockets and supply ground systems. Others develop software, or provide satellite TV equipment, launch services or mobile satellite communications systems. Some are involved in a variety of space-related businesses. As a group, the companies serve a cross-section of commercial, government and military space customers.

Conversions into U.S. dollars for 2002 figures made using exchange rates as of Dec. 31, 2002. Figures for 2001 converted as of Dec. 31, 2001.

About the chart: Space News relied on accuracy of company responses to questionnaires, annual reports and interviews with corporate officials and financial analysts. Some privately held firms withhold financial information and some public companies do not report space revenue separately. The list ranks companies based on 2002 space-related revenue and consolidates revenue for firms that have merged.
