WASHINGTON - The National
Space Society (NSS) today announced a strategic partnership with Imaginova Corp.,
publisher of SPACE.com under which Imaginova
will be appointed the publisher of Ad Astra, NSS's flagship magazine. In
addition, Imaginova will create a new destination on SPACE.com: Ad
Astra Online, devoted to the ideas and opinions of the Society and its membership.
Available immediately, Ad
Astra Online expands the magazine's audience, providing NSS members
with breaking news and interactive content, while strengthening NSS's ability
to influence the nation's space agenda in both the public and private sectors.
Meanwhile, the redesigned print magazine will focus on exploring the pioneering
ideas, policies and technologies required to make humanity a space faring civilization.
An aggressive growth plan will drive the magazine to new audiences across the
country.
"Ad Astra literally means
'to the stars,'" said George Whitesides, Executive Director of the National
Space Society, "and we're excited that Imaginova's publishing and Web expertise
will take Ad Astra to entirely new heights. Not only will Ad Astra
expand its in-depth coverage of space policy and legislation, global space initiatives
and scientific discoveries, Ad Astra Online will provide NSS with an
unparalleled Web presence on SPACE.com which will greatly extend our
reach and influence on key space exploration issues."
With the new partnership,
Anthony Duignan-Cabrera, the Managing Editor of SPACE.com, has been
appointed Ad Astra magazine's Editor-in-Chief.
"It is exciting to play
a pivotal role in advancing the efforts of NSS," Duignan-Cabrera said. "Our
plan is to grow Ad Astra into a world class publication, with a strong
editorial voice providing independent analysis and opinion on the key policies,
people, and discoveries that guide human programs in space. We intend to make
Ad Astra the 'go to' magazine for members of the scientific, government,
and aerospace sectors as well as space advocates everywhere."
The first edition of Ad
Astra magazine under this new agreement will be published in mid-February. Special
subscription rates will be available immediately via both SPACE.com and
NSS.org.
