Daimeon Shanks is a doctoral candidate in the Jurisprudence and Social Policy program at Berkeley Law, studying legal history, jurisprudence, and political philosophy. Daimeon's dissertation research project concerns the history of international legal norms and international community as articulated around energy extraction, in particular the nexus of sovereignty as it developed in relation to whaling on the high seas, and the global transition from coal to petroleum in the long nineteenth-century and after the First World War.
