Astrophotographer Jack Fusco sent in this photo of a Geminid meteor taken in Ocean City, NJ, on Dec. 14, 2012. He writes: "The shower produced a high number of meteors and fireballs that lit up the sky. Hands down one of the [best] meteor showers in recent years."

2012 Geminid Meteor Over Tenerife, Spain

Astrophotographer Roberto Porto sent in a photo of a Geminid meteor over Tenerife, Spain, taken Dec. 14, 2012. He wrote: "[L]ast night I went to Teide National Park to photograph the Geminids. I saw many and capture some, but nothing impresive. When I arrived home to process the pictures, I inserted a new card, and go on taking pictures from the window. Was then that I catch this big Geminid meteor!"

SPACE.com reader Peter Greig provided this photo of a Gemind meteor taken Dec. 14, 2012. He writes: "This is the only meteor I caught whilst on a Geminid meteor hunting trip ... at Captain Cook's Monument, Great Ayton, North Yorkshire, UK. It was really faint so worked some Photoshop magic on it to make it stand out more. We saw some absolute crackers but unfortunately the weather wasn't on our side and we got some cloud cover quite soon into the shoot. After travelling so far and hiking all the way to the top of the hill we were determined to take home some good shots so we turned our attention the the amazing view behind us."
