Rohan Rahatgaonkar is a PhD student at the Instituto de Astrofísica-Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He studies galaxy formation and evolution using deep, wide-field surveys of nearby galaxy groups, building a comprehensive census of galaxies out to 18 Mpc (≈58 million light-years). He completed an M.S. in Astronomy at San Diego State University, where he modeled ionized-gas kinematics in star-forming galaxies, and earned a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from the University of Toledo with undergraduate work on protostellar evolution and near-IR spectroscopy in the Orion region.
