Mars Ice House: Tour a Concept Martian Home in Pictures

Structural Design

Clouds AO/SEArch

The Mars Ice House will be constructed in layers of ice, a mixture of carbon dioxide and other components of the Mars atmosphere, and oxygen. Plants in the "heart" of the structure will help to provide oxygen for human residents.

Pressurization

Clouds AO/SEArch

The Mars Ice House will be pressurized to maintain its structure and also prevent ice from sublimating.

Aerogel Insulation

Clouds AO/SEArch

In the Mars Ice House, aerogel will help to insulate the inner "heart" where plants will grow and humans will reside. The heat produced in this "heart" will also help to support human inhabitants.
