This is just one of many links to information about the connection between animal cruelty and the abuse of children, the elderly, spousal abuse and also the committing of violent crimes.

Animal abuse is not just against "cute puppies and kittens." Some children who start torturing animals begin with squirrels or birds and work their way up to dogs and cats...then, at some point, to humans.

This was one of the first things I thought of when I read the OP story. Terrible thing that happened. This guy needs high fines and jail time, IMO.
