Tech Today: Pocket DV Digital Video Camera
Merlin Roadster

Sometimes it can seem like there are hidden cameras everywhere. Traffic cams, surveillance cams, nanny cams, Web cams. At least handheld camcorders are still bulky enough that you can see when someone's pointing one at you.

Until now that is.

At a miniscule 3in. x 3in. x 1.5in., the Pocket DV Digital Video Camera from NISIS is small enough to hide behind a paperback book. You can record up to a whopping 3 minutes of video, or shoot between 450 (high resolution) and 2,000 (low resolution) still pictures. It stores your shots or footage on 16MB of internal memory. And you can hook it up to your PC to use as a Web cam.

The big advantages of the Pocket DV over other small still/video camera combinations is its size, and the amount of video it can store without resorting to tape. With no tape drive to power, the Pocket DV needs only two AA batteries to run.

Three minutes might not seem like a lot, but consider how much the average TV commercial accomplishes in one minute or less.

The Pocket DV retails for about $122 in the US. See available dealers on the NISIS Web site.
