Boeing Co. is consolidating the sales and marketing staffs for commercial launches aboard Delta and Sea Launch rockets under a new organization, the company announced.
Boeing builds Delta rockets and is the lead partner in the international Sea Launch venture, which launches satellites from an ocean-going platform.
The new organization, dubbed Boeing Launch Services Inc., will be headed by Will Trafton, former president and general manager of Sea Launch.
Trafton will report to Gale Schluter, vice president and general manager of Boeing Expendable Launch Systems of Huntington Beach, Calif.
A separate Boeing organization, reporting to Schluter and Trafton, will market Delta launch services to the U.S. government, the company said. Dave Schweikle will be responsible for sales to the government.
Despite the consolidation of the Sea Launch and Delta commercial sales staffs, Sea Launch will continue operating as a separate company, Boeing said.
The Boeing statement did not say whether any jobs will be eliminated as a result of the move.
"From a customer service and mission assurance standpoint, it was imperative that we moved towards common marketing and sales, without changing the way the Sea Launch or Delta programs are run," Schluter said in the statement.
