The commanding officer of outer space, William Shatner, is taking some profits from cyberspace -- Internet stocks, that is.
Shatner, best known as the skirt-chasing captain of the starship Enterprise on the classic television series Star Trek, has filed to sell 35,000 shares of online grocer Priceline.com.
The shares represented about a quarter of the 125,000-share stake he had received in 1998 as payment for serving as the company's celebrity spokesman.
Shatner's promotional efforts on Priceline.com's behalf -- often musical, with the star accompanying himself on guitar -- have won a cult following.
The celebrity's broker of choice in the sale, according to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, was Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. At Friday's closing price of $90 per share, Shatner could have grossed up to $3.15 million on the transaction.
