That Crafty Jaffa

HAMMOND: Is there a problem?

JACK: No sir, I'm sure Teal'c just has her out for a spin around the world.

TEAL'C: We have fought and won many battles together. It has been an honor to serve by your side. We are brothers.

WHAT HAPPENED

The team stands around on a military airstrip waiting for Teal'c, who has taken their new experimental airship out for a spin -- his direct orders being, "push the envelope."

A humvee pulls up and Hammond, General West (former commander of the Stargate program) and a new general get out.

Teal’c does a flyby in the new craft, which West explains is the X301 Interceptor. He goes on to explain that it was created from two Goa'uld death gliders and some good old American know-how.

Carter tells the visitor that it represents a great step for them as they now have a platform to attack a Goa'uld mothership. When she starts to go into the technology behind it the general’s eyes gloss over and he tells her that it is enough that it flies. (spoilers)

ANALYSIS

This episode brought home several good points.

First, do not slap a air force sticker on a death glider.

Second, freezing to death out in space is not as fun as one might expect.

And last, the general does not care how a gadget works as long as it does.

Otherwise, I thought they did a nice job with some traditional themes this week, but on the whole I was not wowed.

Stargate SG-1. Everyone loves it, nobody talks about it. The editor gleefully takes proposals for articles involving the show's characters, backstory and technology. Up to the challenge?
