Later, at the Clover Leaf Diner in Montana, we find O’Neill dressed in civilian clothes, picking at some breakfast waiting for the crackpot to arrive. Sure enough, a small geeky man in a windbreaker and thick black-framed glasses sits down across from him and identifies himself as "Martin," the caller.

In traditional paranoid style, he checks Jack for bugs. When he finds none, he starts his diatribe over, again ending with the Stargate.

We then see Teal'c -- working behind the counter in a large comical chef’s hat -- turn the order rack, revealing a small camera. Daniel and Sam are in a surveillance van outside monitoring the situation. Once they get a good picture of Marty, Sam gets his driver’s license and starts to pull all his information.

Even weirder than we'd hoped

Back in the restaurant Martin tells Jack that not only is he fascinated with aliens -- he is an alien himself and would like to use the Stargate to go home. O’Neill has decided that he has had enough and asks for the check. When it comes, it has a message on it: they need him to stall.

Jack then goes with Martin to see his "ship."

Sam, Daniel and Teal'c go to Martin’s house and there they find Alien Geek Central, filled with spaceship lava lamps and glowing green alien dolls. Upon closer observation, Jackson discovers a whole cabinet full of medication.

Back in the forest Martin is having a tough time finding his ship. Jack, obviously frustrated, tells his guide there is no ship and that it's time to pack it in.

Back at the house, Daniel goes through Marty’s diary, which reads like an X-File wannabe. We then zoom in on a green alien doll with a small camera in its eye.

Hunt the gatherers

In a warehouse, three men are gathered around a computer watching our crew root through Martin's house. Thanks to a thermal scan, they see Teal'c’s symbiote.

Later, Dr. Fraiser brings Hammond a report outlining the tests done on Martin’s drugs. As it turns out, there are "unidentifiable" substances in the medications that could be causing the delusions.

Daniel and Carter decide to pay Martin's shrink a little visit. He seems skeptical and pleads client/patient privilege , but Carter responds that this is a matter of national security and so the normal rules don't apply.

The doctor tells them that Martin is an attention seeker who creates delusions in which he is the center. He gets defensive when Sam brings up the odd medication -- after this, he gives SG-1 Martin's work address, but is otherwise unhelpful.

The joy of Montana

Cut to a dingy hotel room where Jack is watching old alien movies while Teal'c enjoys the modern wonder that is the vibrating bed. Martin knocks on the door and seems put off by Teal'c, who Jack introduces as "Murray," but soon gets back onto his usual rant.

He now wants Jack's help because "They" are after him and he wants to go home through the Stargate.

Jack asks him why he thinks his way home is through the Stargate. Marty answers that it comes to him in flashes, but otherwise everything is very confusing. He asks for some water to take his meds but Jack takes them from him and asks him to go easy on the drugs for awhile.

Then Marty asks O’Neill about the symbols, which he sees in his visionary flashes. He produces a ripped up piece of paper with seven characters scrawled on it -- obviously gate codes.

This doesn't look like a dotcom startup!

Meanwhile, Sam and Daniel have been looking for Martin's workplace, only to find an abandoned warehouse and the three voyeurs, now armed with guns. The terrible trio shows them the video they took and ask about Teal'c and Martin.

Jack begins to get worried when Sam and Daniel don’t check in. He leaves Teal'c to watch Martin while he goes to look for them.

First going to the psychologist's office, he finds it completely abandoned, so he stops back in at the hotel room. Teal'c is reading the paper, with Martin securely locked in the bathroom -- and apologizing through the door for trying to bite Teal'c.

Once released, the prisoner faints. After Jack wakes him up, he groggily says he remembers where his ship is.

Back in the forest Martin finds a clearing and declares that this is it. He drops to his knees and begins to dig, only to uncover what actually looks like the hull of a spaceship.

Professional torture

Jack calls in the cavalry from Stargate Command. Once they arrive, they get some readings on the ship, then start to excavate what they've determined is an escape pod. Did Marty indeed come here with some compadres from space?

Back in the warehouse more smart remarks frustrate the interrogators so much that they leave. But sadly, this victory is only temporary for Daniel and Carter -- the thugs come back with the psychiatrist, who pulls some torture implements out of his medical bag in an attempt at intimidation.

Martin now remembers that his world was at war with an enemy that tried to make them believe that they were gods. Teal'c asks him if they were the Goa'uld to which Martin excitedly agrees as more memories come back.

They go to open the ship but Martin tells them that any tampering will alert the others. Teal'c decides that this could be used to their advantage

Sure enough, as the malevolent doctor prepares to shock, drug and beat Sam and Daniel, one of the alien thugs' beepers goes off. The "experiment" has been discovered, so they go investigate.

Sort of a grim ending nonetheless

Martin is standing in the field by his ship talking to Jack and Marty/Teal'c when the others show up and drag him back to their warehouse. During the trip, he tells them they should just admit who they are and that go home -- the Earthlings have a Stargate, he explains.

Jack follows them back to the warehouse, finding the van parked and Carter and Daniel tied up in chairs. Teal'c opens the van to find Martin, but the thugs are gone without a trace.

Marty has found more evidence -- a device he lifted from the psychiatrist's bag back in the van. Unfortunately, this device starts to count down, causing everyone to run from the building even though nothing seems to happen.

In the clearing we see the ship begin to glow then explode under the earth.

Back at the SGC the Stargate engages, preparing to open. Marty, Jack and Teal'c go through to his world.

Marty remembers a little more on the gate ramp: they were deserters who stole the shuttle when the war was going bad. Jack tells him that his fellow defectors are safe from government persecution.

They gate to a completely lifeless city. Jack takes Marty back to earth.
