Then "Brenna" (the woman from the balcony) shows up to verify for herself that Jack doesn't believe he knows Teal'c, or "Tor" as she calls him.
Upon hearing for herself that Jack doesn't remember his teammate, she reassures him by saying that Tor is "night sick." To further prove her benevolence, she tells the server to give Thera some bread while everyone else gets back to work.
He has the night sickness
We next see Teal’C on the balcony leaving what could be an infirmary. On the warehouse floor Daniel is speaking with the serving woman, Kegan. From their conversation, it seems as though they may have some romantic relationship.
Carter is doing what she does best, fixing things. The plant runs on a coal-based furnace system that creates pressurized steam and since a valve has blown, she is now stabilizing the system.
She tells Brenna that she has some plans for automatic valves that would vent the excess steam. Brenna seems interested and invites "Thera" to present her plan later in her office.
Daniel -- whom Kegan calls "Carlen" -- wonders why Teal’C/Tor called them "friends," but Kagen attributes everything to the "night sickness."
Does anyone know they're missing?
Meanwhile at Stargate Command, General Hammond speaks to someone who may be the leader of this ice planet. He says that Major Carter wanted to go out and explore and that O’Neill insisted it was safe despite their objections. Although this person -- Administrator Caulder -- feels that they must be hopelessly lost in the ice, Hammond sends a rescue team anyway.
After he discontinues transition with Hammond we see Caulder ask an assistant to send for Brenna. He wonders aloud how the new workers are doing.
Daniel dreams of the Stargate. Jack is beckoning him in, but Kagen tells him not to listen.
When he awakens, he decides to have a talk with Teal’c.
Teal'c insists that he does not know Daniel, and gets a bit testy when Daniel presses the subject. He emphatically denies the fight in the line and insists that he was not even here last week, but in the mines.
He's crazy, don't listen to him
Daniel goes back to speak with Kagen, who scolds him for speaking with Teal'c. Apparently with genuine affection, she warns him that people will talk if he buys in to "Tor's" delusions.
Back in the domed city, Caulder has a chat with Brenna. He wants to know why the memory stamp did not work on Teal’c. She explains that it might be the creature that he carries within him -- his Goa'uld parasite.
Brenna also reports that Carter has had some great ideas for increasing productivity. Much to her dismay, the administrator is very negative on any upgrades, sarcastically joking that they can't make the workers obsolete.
He says it is obvious to him that they can never be integrated back into society, even though they have committed no crime, but their servitude is for a just and humane cause. They're only doing what is necessary to produce power.
Brenna seems unhappy about this but she tells him that it is an honor to serve.
Sweet explosives
When she gets back to the plant, Brenna tells Carter that she's looked the plans over, but it would be too risky to implement the improvements. Carter is unhappy with this and storms off.
Carter consoles herself with Jack, asking him how he can be so calm. He tells her that maybe he handled explosives in another life -- a statement she finds odd.
The rescue team returns to SGC and reports to Hammond. The leader tells him that he believes that SG-1 was never outdoors and that the administrator is a liar.
Back in the plant, Kegan and Daniel spend a moment together. He asks her how he got there --he has no memories of the time before he worked in the mines -- and wonders if he may have known "Tor," "Jonna" and "Thera" from childhood.
She seems put off by this and tells him that if he is friends with them he is not one to her.
From love to disaster
Teal’c, now rehabilitated, is adjusting the pressure on one of the boilers when he falls unconscious, leaving the pressure to build to dangerous explosive levels.
The management team starts to evacuate the sector but Jack, Daniel and Sam respond to danger as they always do -- Jack and Daniel hammer on the valve until it opens and Sam tinkers with the main power till she can shut it down.
In the makeshift infirmary, Teal’c is laid out on a cot where Brenna checks him over. She congratulates the rest of SG-1 for saving the installation.
Carter is annoyed because this would have been avoided if Brenna had listened to her, and storms off again.
Daniel gathers her and Jack to discuss Teal'c and their dreams. Jack is upset by all of this strange talk, but Daniel says they should meet after lights out.
A dream of stargates
At the midnight meeting they talk of their dreams of the Stargate. Daniel makes Jack admit that he has large gaps in his memory -- they all do. Then Carter accidentally calls Jack "sir."
Back on Earth, Hammond tells Dr. Fraiser that he is considering a covert search and rescue, as he does not believe that Caulder was being truthful. In a strangely proactive move, the usually sedentary doctor volunteers to go.
It's them or me
Meanwhile, Daniel has breakfast with Jack and Sam. Like a character remembering Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Jack takes a white food bowl and decides "it means something." Then the memories start coming back. He sees the domed city for an instant in his mind.
Kegan confronts Daniel about his new friends but he brushes her off.
Teal'c lies unconscious on a cot. One of the workers goes to check his bandages, but Brenna stops him.
Carter and Jack have a soft moment where Jack revels he has memories of feelings for her. This seems to comfort Sam/Thera quite a bit.
Back in the city, Brenna gives her report to the administrator, who decides that our heroes have become a liability and should be left in the waste to die. She protests, but he tells her the Earthers passed judgement on their way of life and he is just doing the same. She leaves, obviously troubled.
Jack looks at the white bowl as he is trying to sleep. In flashback, he is in Caulder's office telling him he found the slave labor camp under the surface. He says Earth will not trade with a culture that supports enslavement.
Meditation and just a little gunplay
The lights come on and Jack awakens.
He goes to Carter to tell her he knows what’s going on. Then they are ordered to Brenna’s office, where Teal'c is also being carried on a stretcher.
Once in the office, Daniel helpfully points out that Teal'c is in kelnorim, a healing meditation that he must go through once a day or be sick. However, Jack figures out that Teal’c got sick in the first place because he does not remember to meditate.
Brenna admits that their memories have been tampered with, explaining that she originally though that she was protecting her way of life, but is now convinced it has gone to far.
She is going to show them the way home. Their memories will come back with time.
Naturally, Caulder interrupts at this time, barging in with two guards. He makes a little speech before shooting Brenna.
Teal’c then starts the violence that SG-1 fans have come to expect. Our team easily takes out the two guards and the administrator.
All's well that ends well
Teal’c helpfully sums up the storyline for Caulder and other slow viewers.
He remembered his normal life when he removed his bandages and saw his symbiote. He then meditated through the night and is now at full strength.
The administrator tells them that they will never escape, but Jack explains that with him as a hostage there shouldn't be much problem.
Daniel says they have to free the slaves. Jack thinks for a second and agrees.
He takes Caulder outside and tells the disbelieving crowd that all are free, then shoots the skylight, which does not cave in covering them with an avalanche, but instead crashes inward, revealing light streaming in from a city above.
Jack says he knows a nice planet where the beaches go on forever and these workers will be happy -- the city dwellers can dig for themselves for a little while.
Carter and Jack have a sad moment where they remember their rank and duty.
