TV Review: Stargate SG-1 - 'Foothold'
In a break from the last few deeply arc-related episodes, the team returns from a mission only to find that the people at Stargate Command are not who they appear to be.
(originally aired November 11,1999)
| Quotable Moments | | Carter: Maybourne, you are an idiot every day of the week. Couldn't you just take one day off? | O'Neill: Just rain, much rain, wind, lightning hail, did I mention therain? | O'Neill: How is a needle in my butt going to get water out of my ears? |

WHAT HAPPENED
As the Stargate opens, General Hammond watches from the walkway with clenched fists and a nervous look on his face. The SG-1 crew, dressed in cameo raincoats soaked to the skin, emerges from the gate, apparently back from a very rainy planet indeed.
While welcoming the team back, Hammond chastens them for being late. In a strange monotone, he tells them to get to the infirmary and refuses to give them time to even change their clothes. A guard escorts them on the pretext of shepherding them around a dangerous chemical spill.... (more spoilers)
ANALYSIS
A nice standalone episode that gives the series a chance to unwind after the last few weeks of mythology-intensive adventures. Odds are, the events depicted here will never be brought up again, but that's fine.
This episode is also interesting because we get to see SG-1 act like the soldiers that they are in a military setting. Decent suspense and a fast-moving pace leave the viewer engrossed and a little spooked, providing chills in the "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" vein.
TUNE IN NEXT WEEK
SG-1 reruns continue with "Fair Game". When the rivalry between Goa'uld System Lords heats up, the Earth gets caught in the middle.
