Roswell
Roswell fans can take heart: the beleaguered "generation x-files" drama will be returning to the WB Network next fall for at least another 13 episodes.

The renewal ended weeks of nervous speculation from fans and industry watchers alike.

Although the WB initially made a strong commitment to a full season of Roswell, ratings soon proved disappointing, especially after a long block of midseason reruns failed to hold an audience.

In any case, a late scheduling change to Monday nights -- away from Wednesdays, where the show had languished in head-to-head competition with science fiction warhorse Voyager and the critically acclaimed West Wing -- helped save the program.

Roswell will remain in its existing Monday night timeslot next fall.

Farscape also gets picked up

In other next-season news, the Jim Henson Company, makers of Farscape, announced that the SCIFI Channel had picked up a third season of the popular series. Filming will begin in November, and the new episodes will likely appear on the channel in 2001.

The fate of The X-Files remains nebulous, as may befit that program's unworldly tone.
