The Excelsior campaign to give George Takei command of his own Star Trek series has picked up another endorsement -- this one from Leonard Nimoy -- but Paramount's Star Trek barons remain cagey about the shape the upcoming fifth Trek will take.
Nimoy told entertainment website iFUSE that
Takei had as much right to star in a Star Trek franchise as any member of the original Enterprise crew.
"If another one of us can get another series, than why not? Sure," he said. "My only concern is that they do good work, that's all it's about."

Meanwhile, Paramount publicists responded to SPACE.com's request for comments on the Excelsior campaign's chances of success with an extremely cryptic statement.
"Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are actively involved in creating the concept for the highly anticipated
fifth Star Trek series and will begin working on the script soon."
As for the fans banking on Sulu to save Star Trek, the drive to force Paramount to put Takei in the captain's chair seems to be retrenching. The turnout at last month's
Excelsior Rally was uneven if not disappointing, while the window for sending letters to Pocket Books requesting a Sulu novel ended inconclusively on Monday.
