QUOTABLE MOMENTS: All Hands on Deck

Stan finds an apparently inert drone lying on the deck. He tinkers with it in the hope of finding a way to defeat Mantrid, while 790 provides reluctant, grumbling and verbally abusive assistance.

While they fiddle with the broken arm, a swarm of active drones attacks. Stan and 790 hide in a cryo-pod.

Another force of arms waylays Xev in a corridor, and a third wave attacks Kai on the bridge. The assassin makes short work of the fingers of fury, but not before they do irreparable damage to Lyekka’s pod.

This damage may explain the unfortunate Pebbles Flintstone hairstyle the plant woman sports when she emerges from her pod.

As the drones breach the cryo-pod, Stan attaches 790 to the captured arm.

790's first manual act is to hit Stan below the belt, then the newly limbed robot rescues Xev using a series of moves that would do Jackie Chan proud if Jackie Chan were a one-armed floating robot head.

To heighten the madness, 790 explains that his advanced processing capabilities make his now armed-and-dangerous form superior to Mantrid's drones. He then proves it by converting the damaged Mantrid drones on the Lexx into a small army of 790 drones.

Kai tells Stan that the 790s could, in theory, defeat enough of Mantrid's drones that the universe might exist solely of 790 replicants. He deftly avoids the question of how a universe remade in 790's image is in any way preferable to one recast in Mantrid's.

Brothers in arms

As the clone drones come off the assembly line, 790 tells them, "You fight for Xev." Although the 790s handily win their first engagement against Mantrid's drones, Kai insists that they must take the fight directly to the mad scientist himself.

Lyekka uses her ability to home in on dreams to track Mantrid through the almost completely depopulated universe.

Eventually, they find an enormous drone web floating in space. The Lexx reports a feeling of disorientation due to the gravitational shift related to the zillions of Mantrid drones heading in their direction.

Although 790's drones are superior, they can't stand against sheer numbers, and are soon engulfed and destroyed by the Mantrid drones.

Obi Wan Lyekk-enobi

Stan orders the Lexx to blast the web. The drones dodge the attack and reform in the shape of a giant arm that shakes its fist at the ship.

Lyekka tells Stan that she will live on in his dreams. She kisses him on the cheek and morphs into the shape of a Mantrid drone.

This "plant in the ranks" joins the 790 drones. When they get close enough, she breaks off and infiltrates the drone wall.

Mantrid's forces counterattack the 790s by sending out enormous drone spheres to engulf and crush the invaders.

Lyekka sneaks aboard Mantrid's machine. She reassumes human form and begins smashing equipment.

She removes Mantrid -- now incarnated as a small circuit box -- from his control niche, disrupting his control of the drones. The 790th cavalry returns to the attack.

A few of Mantrid's hand drones operate on a separate circuit. They electrocute Lyekka, who collapses into a pile of dry leaves and blows away.

Eye of the hurricane

The Lexx blasts the disabled drones. Inside the wall they find thousands of decoy machines. Stan hesitates, not wanting to destroy the real machine with Lyekka still aboard.

Kai tells Stan that Lyekka was dying anyway and, knowing it, embarked on a suicide mission. Since the plant girl isn't coming back, Stan orders the Lexx to blast the machines.

Mantrid reestablishes his link to his drones. 790 reports that "Mantrid's drones are aligning themselves for a final crushing assault on the Lexx."

Kai orders them to turn tail and run toward the center of the universe, drones in pursuit. As the Lexx flees, Mantrid taunts the crew.

In a desperate ploy to create a distraction, Kai asks Mantrid what he plans to do once he converts the entire universe to drones. The answer: open a portal to the Dark Zone and "eat it for dessert."

With the Furies breathing down on your neck

As the ship approaches the center of the universe, dozens of enormous Mantrid constructs pursue it.

At 790's mark, Stan orders the Lexx to stop, then turns the ship around so they can face death in the eye.

"Welcome to the end of the universe," Stan says to his friends.

Kai continues the conversation with Mantrid.

"I do not experience pleasure," he taunts, "but my friends are deriving satisfaction from the knowledge that their deaths will be simultaneous with yours."

He explains that in his pursuit of the Lexx, Mantrid concentrated too much of the universe's mass in one place. "This universe was born in a big bang," Kai explains, "and now it is about to die in a big collapse."

Mantrid concedes the game. All the matter in the universe – the drones, the Lexx, the few remaining unconverted planets, stars, yellow moons and green clovers – gets sucked toward a single point like water spiraling down a drain.

It's the end of the world as we know it

Conveniently, the collapse opens a portal into the Dark Zone. The Lexx passes through unscathed, and Xev and Stan retire to their (separate) beds after a hard day of saving the universe.

790 tries to join Xev and put his new hand to amorous use, but she tells him his talents would be better served keeping watch on the bridge. As he returns there, a lurking Mantrid drone attacks and maims him.

The bogus drone, complete with a 790 head, returns to Xev's bedchamber. It pretends to seduce Xev, then attacks her.

Xev knocks it across the room. The fake head falls off and reveals Mantrid's control cube beneath.

Lyekka appears one last time in Stan’s dreams, awakening him. She kisses him and disappears for good.

Stan defrosts Kai and they go to rescue Xev. Kai fires his brace at the arm, separating Mantrid's cube from the drone.

As Mantrid screams, "I destroyed the universe," Xev stomps the cube into the deck.

And I feel fine

They return to the bridge flush with their second big victory of the day. Kai throws a bucket of ice water on their spirits by pointing out that since they helped create Mantrid, they share in the responsibility for the death of an entire universe.

Xev views this philosophically, asking, "I wonder if the Dark Zone is ready for us?"

The Lexx sails off into the stars to find out.
