Stan wakes up from his nightmare. Xev checks on Stan, assuring him that he was dreaming.
Xev suggests that "the mighty Captain of the Lexx" should do something to make himself feel better. She recommends blowing up an asteroid or moon.
Stan considers the idea.
Nutty as a Fruitcake
A small ship approaches a space station. A recorded greeting proclaims this, "The famous Gubby Marx Narcolounger World."
The ship docks. The recording of Gubby explains that the Narcolounger allows a user to "slip into your all-time favorite dream."
A passenger enters the station. Gubby unenthusiastically greets the new arrival, whom he refers to as Fruitcake.
He asks what Fruitcake has to trade for his Narcolounger ride. Fruitcake offers him a broken drone arm, and Gubby rejects the offer.
Fruitcake offers Gubby his shuttle. Gubby again refuses.
A tearful Fruitcake tells Gubby, "There's patches in the sky." Gubby is moved to something resembling sympathy by Fruitcake's weeping.
He agrees to give him one last ride, but insists there won't be a next time.
To annul or invalidate
Lexx approaches a mining planet. A robotic administrator tells Stan the ship isn't cleared to visit the planet and threatens to notify the proper authorities.
Stan orders Lexx to destroy the planet in sixty seconds. He tells the robot to offer him something to improve his mood or Lexx will carry out its orders.
The robot offers several suggestions, and Stan rejects them.
Then the robot tells Stan about the Narcolounger, and the prospect of controlling his dreams piques Stan's interest. He tells Lexx to cancel the destruct order.
Lexx blows up the planet. The ship asks Stan, "What does the word 'cancel' mean, Stanley?"
Dream a little dream
Fruitcake settles in for his dream ride. In a bored voice, Gubby tells him, "You are riding the Narcolounger at your own risk, with the full knowledge that if you die in your dream, then real death will result."
As Gubby prepares the Narcolounger, Fruitcake warns him again about the patches in the sky. He tells Gubby to check out the Wolfram T Galaxy.
Gubby scoffs at the warning and throws the switch. Fruitcake's body is absorbed into the Narcolounger apparatus, and a small glass globe attached to the machine fills with smoke.
When Gubby peers into the dream globe, he sees a tiny Fruitcake in a bright yellow Speedo standing inside.
Countdown to armageddon
Gubby scans several nearby galaxies. His computer assistant tells him that significant percentages of each galaxy have ceased to exist.
At the current rate of disintegration, the computer projects that the entire universe will disappear within 103 days.
Faced with the prospect of impending oblivion, Gubby locates a narcotic inhaler and proceeds to get stoned.
Lexx arrives at Narcolounger World. When the drugged-out Gubby tells Stan that the satellite is closed, Stan tries to bluff his way aboard by claiming to be an Inspector with the Commission on Dream Safety.
Gubby calls Stan's bluff, and Stan threatens to blow up the station. Gubby relents, and even offers Stan a free ride on the Narcolounger.
Sweet dreams are made of this
Stan, Xev and
Kai take a moth to the station. Gubby greets them on arrival.
Kai picks up the drone arm off the counter. He recognizes it as one of Mantrid's drone arms.
Gubby tells Kai that Fruitcake brought him the arm. When Kai asks to speak with Fruitcake, Gubby explains that Fruitcake is otherwise occupied.
In his dream sphere, Fruitcake has acquired a trio of female admirers.
Gubby moves Fruitcake's sphere to a nearby storage rack. He places a fresh sphere in the Narcolounger apparatus. Stan hops into the seat and Gubby throws the switch.
Stan's body disappears. His dream essence fills the sphere.
Xev warns Gubby to take care of Stan. He assures her Stan is fine, and adds, "It's the rest of us I'm not so sure about."
He tells Kai about the patches in the sky.
Even Stan's unconscious is against him
Xev peers into Stan's sphere. His Narcolounger dream looks just like the dream he had aboard Lexx.
Kai looks through Gubby's scanner and sees the galaxy dissolving. He looks troubled.
Stan's dream takes a dark turn. He finds himself back on Lexx, face to face with the robotic administrator from the mining planet they destroyed earlier.
The robot tells Stan, "You killed me."
Stan offers a halfhearted apology and asks the robot to get out of his dream. The robot threatens to blow Stan up.
It fires a weapon at Stan, and Stan runs away. Outside the sphere, Xev warns Kai that something has gone wrong with Stan's dream.
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream
Xev tells Gubby to pull Stan out of the dream. Gubby sets about reversing the dreaming process.
He warns Xev that if Stan dies in his dream, he will die in the real world as well. Despite this warning, he assures Xev that the Narcolounger is "perfectly safe."
Gubby is becoming increasingly incapacitated. It takes him a while to set up the reversal process.
Stan wanders through a nightmare version of Lexx. His feet become rooted to the deck.
The robot comes up behind him and morphs into Gigerotta.
Stan orders her out of his dream, and she tells Stan to will her away. Stan tries and fails.
Gigerotta informs Stan that he doesn't have control of his dream.
Gubby's delirium grows more pronounced.
Heavy Freudian stuff
Gigerotta explains that she is a manifestation of Stan's deepest fears. She tells Stan that he is afraid of his sins.
She pushes Stan off a precipice. Xev watches Stan's descent, and tells Gubby to pull him out of the dream.
Gubby picks up a pair of cables and brings them together. The cables arc, and Gubby's head becomes the conduit that closes the circuit between them.
Stan lands on a slab floating in the body. The lower half of his body becomes embedded in the slab. Gigerotta stands over him.
She tells Stan that the thing he fears the most is the thing he truly deserves: the nothingness that lies beyond his death.
Stan sinks further into the slab. Gigerotta tells him, "Say goodbye, Stanley Tweedle."
Welcome to my nightmare
As if on cue, Gubby dissolves. Kai tells Xev that they have to determine how to free Stan.
Gubby appears in Stan's dream. His arrival distracts Gigerotta, and she pulls Stan out of the slab.
She decides to kill Gubby first in order to increase Stan's appreciation of his own impending death.
Gigerotta grabs Gubby's inhaler. She sucks Gubby into her lungs through the inhaler.
Xev tells Kai and
790 to work out the extraction process while she enters the dream to help Stan.
Stan reminds himself that he is dreaming, and tries to wake himself up. He comes to on the bridge of Lexx.
Xev is there, but her features are distorted and she howls unintelligibly. Gigerotta attacks, and Stan realizes he is still dreaming.
Kai throws the switch. Xev's dream essence filters into the sphere.
Honey, I shrunk the love slave
Xev appears in Stan's dream and puts herself between Stan and Gigerotta. Xev warns that Gigerotta will have to go through her to get at Stan.
Gigerotta tells Xev, "Wakey time rules don't apply." She walks through Xev as though Xev were a ghost.
Asserting control over the dream reality, Gigerotta shrinks Xev down to a height of mere inches. Xev runs away.
Kai and 790 examine the Narcolounger's systems. Kai asks 790 to locate the physical mass of the dreamers' bodies, and 790 directs him down a long spiral staircase.
In dreams I walk
At the bottom, they find a series of tubes. Xev and Stan's bodies are in one tube, while Fruitcake's body is in another.
Xev regains her normal dimensions and announces, "This is my dream, too." Stan tells Xev to will Gigerotta out of the dream.
Before Xev can act, Gigerotta begins inhaling her. Outside the dream, Xev's physical form begins to dissolve.
790 begs Kai to do something. Kai opens a valve near the tubes.
Inside the dream, Xev disappears. Stan accuses Gigerotta of killing Xev, but his dream tormentor assures him that she was not responsible.
Kai opens another valve, and Xev's body materializes in Fruitcake's tube. Xev's dream self appears in Fruitcake's dream.
Stan flees from Gigerotta. Kai transfers Stan's body to Fruitcake's tube, and he also materializes in Fruitcake's dream.
With no guiding consciousness, Stan's dream quickly dissipates and Gigerotta dissolves into nothingness.
Fruitcake notices the intruders in his dream.
All a dream
Kai places Fruitcake's dream sphere back in the Narcolounger apparatus. He throws the switch and pulls Stan out of the dream. He then retrieves Xev and Fruitcake in turn.
Fruitcake asks to be returned to his dream. Kai sends him back.
In light of his nightmare experience, Stan promises to never blow up another planet. He also vows "to live every moment of my life to the fullest."
Kai puts Stan's vow in perspective. He tells Stan and Xev about the patches in the sky, and points out that the drone arm that Fruitcake brought aboard the station has disappeared.
Lexx departs.
The drone arm becomes active.
Fruitcake stands amid his admirers with a blissful smile on his face. He hears a commotion outside the dream sphere.
The drone arm smashes the sphere.
