Don't you just love HMOs?
When Zev hails the station, a receptionist inquires whether they have the necessary insurance waivers. She doesn't, but the receptionist tells her "cash will do fine."
Kai promises to pay them later. When the receptionist tells them the facility does not accept credit, Zev threatens the satellite by ordering Lexx to destroy a nearby moon.
Shortly thereafter, the hospital's administrator -- Doctor Flagg -- comes onscreen and apologizes for the unfriendly welcome.
Stan quickly gets assigned to the "the very eminent Doctor Kazzan," who asks what caused the injury. Zev insists it was an accident. 790 calls it "A beautiful, wonderful accident."
How can you mend a broken heart?
Kai watches from the gallery as Doctor Kazzan removes the remains of Stan's heart. An assistant places the damaged organ in a jar and puts the jar inside a larger device for regeneration.
As they replace the now-repaired heart, the surgical team discusses Kai, deducing that he is a warrior and undoubtedly dangerous. Kai looks on, unaware that he is their topic of conversation.
Zev wakes from a nap and joins Kai at the window. They watch as Kazzan uses a "reverse scalpel" to close the incision in Stan's chest.
"The dream is over," 790 laments, but Zev hugs Kai and gives him a kiss on the cheek.
When good doctors go bad
Kazzan invites Zev to dinner.
At the MedSat restaurant, he offers a toast "to the gallant crew of Lexx." Zev asks him to kiss her. He complies enthusiastically.
Doctor Kazzan then grills Zev about the key to Lexx. but she is unable to explain how Stan passed it to her. Kazzan wants Zev to abandon the rest of the crew and take him with her aboard Lexx.
As the good doctor's mask of civility slips, he tells Zev that "Stan is weak and pathetic, Kai is a freak of science and the robot is a cartoon."
Zev is outraged at his opinion of her friends, but Kazzan apologizes only to inject her with a tranquilizer. Down she goes.
Anyone for a Kai Tai?
Back in their quarters, 790 and Kai bicker when the room begins filling with a strange gas. Kai aims his brace at the source, but the gas envelops him before he can fire.
790 screams in terror despite presumably being immune to inhaled toxins -- it's a freezing gas!
The door opens, and Doctors Funz and Veezra enter dressed in pressure suits. They check Stan and the now-frozen Kai.
After a moment's contemplation, they toss the still semi-conscious 790 in a trash can and carry Kai out of the room.
Zev wakes up. Kazzan tells her to surrender the key to Lexx or else "things could get ugly."
An orderly straps her to an operating table and injects her with the contents of a large syringe.
So much for compassionate care
A patient met under earlier, happier circumstances enters the operating room. Zev begs her for help, but the wheelchair-bound woman offers little assistance.
Kazzan kicks her wheelchair across the room, opens an airlock and pitches his former patient into space.
Musing that "the hand that heals becomes the hand that steals, " he commences his examination of Zev.
How do you kill a dead man?
In another lab, the unconscious Kai is bound in a standing position. Doctor Funz activates a control and a giant hologram of Kai's head appears in the air near him.
Funz asks how he might kill Kai. The hologram explains that he is already dead.
Doctor Veezra suggests several ways of keeping Kai neutralized, but Funz assures her that unless the undead assassin is destroyed, he will find a way to come after them. He proposes breaking Kai down into subatomic particles.
Doctor Funz explains that he is going to redirect the station's plasma beam at Kai to destroy him. The assassin calmly replies, "Fire away."
Mad science
Doctor Kazzan offers Zev a final chance to cooperate. She refuses.
An assistant warns that there is something unusual about Zev's DNA, but the doctor ignores the warning, instead injecting her with a green substance and applying an electrical current.
790 reactivates himself. He shouts for Stan to wake up. Surprisingly, his words have the desired effect.
The status lights on Stan's bed activate. The bed floats toward 790.
As the electrical field does its work, an assistant reports that Zev's vital signs are at "20 percent." He continues counting down as the prisoner moves ever closer to death.
When her vital signs reach one percent, her hand begins glowing with the energy of the key. Doctor Kazzan puts out his hand to accept the key.
Meet the lizard queen!
A tendril of energy reaches out from Zev's hand to his own. The assistant rushes over and tells the doctor Zev isn't entirely human. He explains that she is part cluster lizard.
She changes shape, rolls off the table, kills the assistant and rolls off into the shadows. Kazzan begins to inch his way out of the operating room.
The cluster lizard sneaks up behind him. He attempts to reason with "Zev," reminding her that he saved Stan and knows where Kai is.
None of this stops the lizard from making short work of him.
The great escape?
Stan's gurney floats through the hospital corridors with 790 aboard, screaming for Zev. Stan regains consciousness. 790 brings him up to speed.
The cluster lizard rolls down the corridor toward them. 790 immediately recognizes the creature as his beloved Zev, and orders the gurney to follow.
Funz and Veezra activate the plasma beam. Tendrils of energy flow from Kai's eyes.
Impressed with the results of this test, Funz orders his assistant to set the beam to full power. Before he can comply, the cluster lizard rolls into the room.
It menaces the doctors, then rolls over to Kai and knocks him out of the plasma beam's path. The lizard gets caught in the beam.
An energy spike disintegrates Funz and Veezra.
Kai deactivates the plasma beam. The energy transforms the lizard back into the humanoid Zev, now surrounded with a glowing energy field.
Stan and 790 arrive.
Beautiful Jell-o
Kai tells them it is too late to save Zev.
Zev is philosophical, saying "I had a good life with you guys."
She tells Stan that she will miss him. She tells Kai that she loves him.
790 weeps.
Zev returns the key to Stan, then dissolves into a puddle of gelatinous material.
Kai scoops Zev's remains into a jar to bring her home.
Revenge solves nothing
They return to the ship. Stan places Zev's jar in an alcove and tells Kai that he plans to destroy MedSat. 790 approves.
Kai questions Stan's motivation for revenge. When he reminds him that Zev's killers are already dead, and that Zev wouldn't want them to take revenge on her behalf, Stan relents.
As Lexx turns away from the satellite,
