Thanks for your article.
It's nice to know I'm not alone in wondering what is wrong with my favorite
show.
I put part of the blame on
the actors. Duchovny seems to be "phoning in" his lines -- I think that
Mulder has lost some of the paranoid edge that made him such an interesting
character.
Anderson's Scully seems downright
unhappy all the time. Professionalism doesn't mean a perpetual scowl; she
won me with her smile.
I think that some of the
problem lies with the story concept, though. I don't really care whether
Scully and Mulder get together or not; but I'd like to have a nod to the
human characteristic of needing someone to love.
Mulder gets his girlfriends
and interested ladies; but have you ever noticed that whenever Scully finds
someone, Mulder pulls a gun out?
Six years of platonism is
too much. Either let them get together, or let them both find someone else.
Hey, there's an idea; then you could expand the concept to an ensemble
show, and the fates of Duchovny and Anderson wouldn't affect the X-Files
story idea so much.
The mythology is confusing,
and I get the idea sometimes that Carter et al just get a weird idea and
work it in -- i.e., the black oil.
But that keeps it interesting.
I would like to know if the younger Spender is dead, or what happened to
Gibson Praise, or so forth -- in other words, finish something, anything!!!
Thank you for letting me
blow off steam. I look forward to your next article.
I have been watching the
show a long time now, and I'm getting bored with the new monsters and so
on and so on.
I want to see better, updated
versions of the older episodes. I want to be scared and thrilled, and I
think many loyal fans of the show feel that too. It's a demand that deserves
to be met.
We're still getting letters
from satisfied fans, though:
I have been a fan of the
X-Files for a couple of years now. I feel that even though their ratings
have fallen a little, the X-Files is still one of the most intriguing shows
I have ever seen.
Their alien conspiracies,
mythology, dark comedy, and even some romantic episodes have kept the loyal
X-Files fans watching. Whether or not there's going to be a season 8, I
still look forward to every Sunday.
I wouldn't mind if David
D. and Gillian A. wanted season 7 to be the last one, because I would rather
watch them giving out their best last performances than weaker ones if
they were bribed to continue in season 8.
Either way, I just feel that
the X-Files have improved more over the years than failed and that it is
the best show I have ever seen.
Fight the Future,
What do you think?
