That’s why he’s taken over the TV station. It’s an attempt to get his message out to the world, but he and Eddie are worried they’ll become martyrs.

Coving his soft, gooey, people-loving center with the hard candy shell of a vicious criminal, Cade ties up the staff of the Phil Tennant Show with Eddie’s help. He has four captives: Phil, Gwen, a panicky man named Hal, and young woman named Tina who’s have a very bad first week on the job.

Don’t worry, we’re friendly psychos

Gwen makes an attempt to escape, but Cade stops her. Eddie tries to reassure her as he ties her down.

As they leave to check out the broadcast systems, she begins working frantically at her bonds.

The broadcast system passes muster. Eddie thinks they can reach 200 million people if he can link up with enough satellites.

The captives worry. Tina hopes for the best and Hal freaks out.

Gwen has escaped. She sneaks to the main power panel and pulls the plug, causing Eddie to lose control of the satellite system.

Cade rushes down and discovers the escape. He goes to hunt Gwen, telling the others he’ll be "forced to hunt you down and kill you!" if they try to follow her example.

Gwen has called the police. Two officers arrive to investigate and discover the bomb Cade and Eddie have attached to the main door.

Gwen finds another bomb on a fire exit. Faced with the high likelihood of being blown to kingdom come, she quite sensibly decides it’s a good time for a cigarette.

Never ask that question

Cade asks Eddie, "What else could screw up?" Their radio immediately warns them that their capture of the station has been discovered.

"I shouldn’t have asked," mutters Cade. Eddie recommends running while they still can – he has a feeling in his bones that they are going to die today.

Cain arrives with an acolyte named Rand, and introduces himself to Officer Cronin as "Agent Jackson" of the "Federal Security Bureau." Cronin is amazed that the FSB is already on the scene.

Cronin refuses to hand over control of the situation to "Agent Jackson". Cain gets on the worthy police officers’ good sides by mocking their polyester shirts and attaching mind control devices to their necks.

The device alters the officers’ perceptions, transforming Cain into a sweet little old lady. Since no one would disobey a little old lady, they cheerfully follow Cain’s orders and tell their dispatcher the hostage situation was just a false alarm.

Let’s vote him off the hostage situation!

Hal continues to panic. Phil tries to reassure him by revealing a cunning plan: Phil will interview Cade in exchange for the others’ freedom.

Cain believes the Gua have gained about an hour before more police investigate. He’s puzzled why Cade has made such a desperate move.

He isn’t worried, though. Cain tells Rand he has somebody on the inside, somebody Cade will never suspect.

Cade finds the junction box and reactivates it. Eddie – who is acting a little strange, even for Eddie – restarts his work on the satellite link.

Stalking the wild TV producer

Cade follows Gwen by the trail of cigarettes she’s left behind. The near-ritual "stalk through a darkened warehouse" scene ensues.

As he searches, Cade’s mobile phone rings. Cain is feeling chatty.

After telling Cade that the Second Wave is on schedule, Cain wishes the human good luck. Cain thinks Cade will "go down as another lunatic whose mind snapped under the pressure of modern society."

Cade insists, "I’m going to make some believers today."

"Your quest is a failure," Cain says, "a waste of time."

"Then why are you here?" asks Cade.

The point strikes home. Cain’s only comeback is to snarl that he intends to get the real book of Nostradamus from Cade.

"As for your followers," he says, "let’s see if they come to your rescue before I snap your neck."

There’s a fake in this scene

After a couple more minutes of footage in the storage area, Cade and Gwen find themselves gun-to-gun in a narrow aisle. After a few minutes of verbal sparring, Cade deduces that Gwen’s gun is a prop and grabs it from her.

Gwen decides to reason with the psycho and convince him that his behavior has nothing to do with aliens. They argue for a few minutes, until Cain gets bored and decides to taunt Cade some more.

He calls Cade on the phone, and Cade makes Gwen listen in. Cain talks freely about the Gua invasion, and offers Eddie’s life in exchange for the book of Nostradamus.

Cade is not impressed, since Eddie is safe with him inside the studio. "Maybe," Cain says, ominously.

Cade hangs up and checks on Eddie. "Everything okay?" he asks.

"I’m fine," Eddie says. "Everything’s fine."

It doesn’t look fine. Eddie is getting a big case out of hiding, and the weird Gua noises in the background hint at a big plot twist to come.

Maybe Sebastian Spence will play you on TV

Cade hustles Gwen back into the studio. He pauses to stare at a world map.

Gwen explains that Phil intended ask viewers to call in with Cade Foster sightings, and that the map is designed to track phone calls from all over the world. Cade is surprised to learn how famous he is.

Despite the phone call – which could have come from an actor playing the part of an Evil Alien – Gwen doesn’t believe in the alien story. She thinks he’s building a clever insanity defense, especially since she has been unable to track down the "believers" mentioned in the Paranoid Times stories.

Eddie tells Cade that he’ll have the uplink ready in 15 minutes. Cade comments that he seems to be acting strangely, but Eddie tells his friend that he’s just scared.

Cain’s just a big Boy Scout

Rand plays with a cop. Cain interrupts, saying it’s time to end the situation.

In the first of several profound questions about the obvious, Rand asks Cain how he could have placed an agent on the inside waiting for Cade. Cain tells Rand how fond he is of the Boy Scout motto, "Be prepared."

Eddie works on the link. Cade frees Phil and asks him to take the others to the basement where they’ll be safe.

Gwen is beginning to believe in the Gua. Phil offers his interview deal.

Hal freaks out again, but it’s all an act. He breaks his bonds and attacks Cade, knocking away the hapless human’s gun.

"We’re everywhere," the Gua agent says. "Even at the network."

Gwen picks up the fallen gun and shoots Hal. The Gua dissolves.

Cade calls Cain, telling him "your infiltrator just went up in a puff of smoke." He invites Cain in for an interview, but the Evil Alien politely declines.

Rand asks Cain if they should alert the Gua Assembly. Cain assures him that the situation is still under control.

He orders Officer Cronin to stand by the door, and uses a handy remote control to detonate the mind control device. The resulting explosion takes out the door.

Cade and Eddie hear the blast. Cade tells Eddie to hurry with the uplink.

Obvious Guy strikes again!

Rand is stunned and amazed by Joshua’s creative use of the destruct function, and says so. Cain is unimpressed by Cade’s use of fake bombs on the doorways.

Since the authorities will arrive soon to investigate the explosion, Cain instructs Rand to tell them terrorists have invaded the building and that they should shoot to kill. Cain goes inside to personally cancel the Phil Tennant Show.

Eddie is almost done. As he works, Cade expresses his frustration that he can’t convince anybody that aliens exist unless a Gua dissolves in front of them.

"Now is not the time to have a crisis of faith," says Eddie. He turns to access The Paranoid Times, and the camera lingers on his suitcase full of doom.

Cain walks in. It’s such a suspenseful shot that we will see several more like it during the next scene.

Cade apologizes to the television people for taking them hostage. They tell him that they won’t go to the basement – they believe him now, and they’re staying to help.

1-900-Clap-For-Tinkerbell!

Eddie has finished the link, and there’s something he wants to show Cade. He’s used The Paranoid Times to ask the Believers to call the station, and the map is lighting up.

"Don’t think what you’ve been doing is worthless," Eddie says. The phone board lights up all across the world, and Cade is very touched.

They’re ready to broadcast. Cain arrives, and rips open the chains on the door.

As Cade gets ready to speak, Cain gets ready to shoot. Just before he fires, Phil hits him a heavy box and knocks him over.

Cain and Phil fight. Phil loses. Cade watches, strangely passive even though Gwen keeps telling him to speak.

Just as Cade starts his message, he is shot in the chest. A familiar eye peers through a rifle sight.

This is an ex-parrot

Gwen, Phil and Tina stand over Cade’s body. After some debate, they decide he looks pretty dead.

Realizing there’s only a minute left in the second season, Cain doesn’t bother to kill all the witnesses, or use the phone bank to track down and eliminate Cade’s followers. Instead, he saunters out of the building, tells Rand to call off the cops, and leaves.

Upstairs, Eddie disassembles his rifle and puts it away.

The camera pulls back from Cade’s body. The phone bank lights up with the futile calls of the Believers.
