WHAT HAPPENED

An alarm blares. Cade Foster scrambles down a fire escape in Pittsburgh, a cop in hot pursuit.

On the ground, Cade knocks over another cop and takes his gun. He runs around the corner and begins climbing a chain link fence.

As he climbs over the fence, the pursuing cops shoot at him and wound him. Cade keeps running.

In the next alley, woman driving a car stops in front of him. He holds her at gunpoint and hijacks the car.

As Cade stumbles into the car, he drops his cell phone onto the street.

The woman’s apartment is only a few blocks away, and Cade makes her take him there. They avoid a nosy neighbor’s inquiries and slip into her loft.

Shaking from the pain of his wound, Cade fumbles for his cell phone – and discovers that his vital link to Eddie is gone. (spoilers)

ANALYSIS

One of the recurring elements of recent episodes has been Cade’s frustration with telling the world about the Gua. He’s told people about the invasion so many times that he’s sick of it.

While there’s usually a Gua or two around to conveniently dissolve and prove the existence of the alien menace, Cade’s current attitude would make recruitment a bit difficult even if evidence were lacking.

This episode might prove to be a turning point. Cade’s been down, but never this far – in "Night Falls" he’s on the run, wounded and betrayed by his latest "recruit."

On the other hand, Eddie’s ranting about the invasion laid the groundwork for convincing Hatcher. His persistence in the face of imminent drowning saved Cade at a moment when Cade was completely helpless.

First Wave is notorious for presenting epiphanies which are totally ignored a week later. But it seems like after this week Cade has nowhere to go but up.

WHAT WE LEARN

Cade is now #9 on the FBI’s Most Wanted List.

Eddie’s data-mining techniques are usually pretty reliable. Since he and Cade started working together, they’ve only come up empty-handed 14 times.
