What Crichton remembers:

Everything went well until the "Plakavoids" - everybody calls them "Plakavoids" in Crichton's version - are mentioned. Stark angrily listed the race's nastier aspects, but Crais cared only about getting a dampening net from them.

D'Argo is suspicious, though. Standing in the center with Aeryn next to him, he suggests that Crais really wants to get more powerful weapons for Talyn.

Crais offers to let them supervise the modifications, and tells them he needs them to sedate Talyn. A skeptical Crichton takes his place next to but in front of D'Argo.

Stark asserts that the Plakavoids are an evil race. Crais claims the change will help Talyn.

"I know what will help Talyn," D'Argo says. "Why don't we just break your neck?"

The guidance and control issue is discussed, with Zhaan suggesting that Crais "controls" Talyn. Tapping the transponder, Aeryn suggests that another captain would have more success.

A balanced perspective

"Doubtful," Crais says. "He trusts me."

"Then he's the only one around here that does."

Crais tells them that he has only fought in self-defense. Zhaan mentions the Halosians, and Crais fills in the rest of the example.

"I have changed," Crais says, telling them his only interest is Talyn's protection and that he fears the ship's increasing aggressiveness will lead to disaster.

The Plokavians arrive, "ahead of schedule." D'Argo goes over to the scanner, and Stark drifts over to the weapons console.

"What are you doing?" Crichton ask.

"We have to strike first," Stark says. As he looks for the correct control on the console, Crichton rushes him.

They struggle. Crichton disarms the system, but Stark hits the fire button. The main guns fire and the "Plakavoid" ship is destroyed.

But is it the truth?

The Plakavoids - er, Plokavians - ask, "You assert that Stark did touch something at the weapons console?"

Crichton agrees, but stresses that he had disarmed the system before Stark could touch it. "He did not fire the cannon," Crichton says.

"Nobody did. And that's how I saw it - cross my heart, hope to die, stick a needle in my eye."
