Larraq's attack (in "A Bug's Life") has severed her paraphoral nerve, and she will die within 60 arns unless she receives a nerve graft from a genetically compatible donor

As it turns out, when Peacekeeper Captain Larraq knifed Aeryn in the previous episode, "A Bug's Life", it missed her heart but severed her paraphoral nerve. She will die within 60 arns -- a fairly short period of time -- unless she receives a nerve graft from a genetically compatible donor.

There are no Sebacean colonies nearby, but Larraq had going to a nearby secret Peacekeeper base when he encountered Moya and her crew. Since Crichton has impersonated a Peacekeeper before, he thinks he can do it again to get the tissue Aeryn needs.

Nobody else likes the plan. It's insanely risky, and will endanger everyone else. Crichton's suprised and angered -- do they want Aeryn to die? Although D'Argo can't quite meet his eyes, the proud Luxan warrior is the first to agree that he wants to save Aeryn's life.

A crack team of professionals

For her part, Aeryn is just as skeptical, but Crichton tells her to "drop the martyr routine." After some prompting, she tries the Earth custom of shaking hands and wishing him good luck.

Moya arrives at the coordinates for Larraq's base, discovering a gas giant planet with a large moon. After the ship takes up a hidden position near the gas giant, Crichton performs a flight check on Aeryn's Prowler.

Chiana joins him aboard the little vessel. She thinks Crichton could use a "talented burglar and distraction causer" and, as an added bonus, has "somehow" acquired Larraq's maximum security Peacekeeper identity chit. "I told you I was talented," she says.

As they descend into the moon's atmosphere, Crichton and Chiana find a seemingly ruined mining complex and a typically friendly Peacekeeper welcome -- eight targeting systems lock onto them at once.

It was all going so well...

Crichton quickly uses his decadent Peacekeeper captain persona to persuade ground control they don't want to blow up a superior officer. After landing, he meets Commander Javio, the base's commanding officer, and his chief security officer Lt. Heskon.

The Peacekeepers inspect Crichton's stolen identity chit. Impressed by the charms of Chiana, his "personal server," they invite the newcomers to the officer's lounge to refresh themselves.

In the lounge, Chiana chats up Lt. Heskon. Crichton has a drink with Commander Javio, who is called away by a menacing, skull-faced figure in leather. Crichton's not comfortable with Chiana's behavior, but she points out that if all eyes are on her, they're not on Crichton.

Later, Lt. Heskon brings them to their quarters, which are in a restricted area that requires genetic verification. Crichton's bluster can't get him out of this security check, and he finds himself putting his hands in a scanner, knowing there's no chance he'll match Larraq's records.

How did that happen?

Amazingly, Crichton passes the security check. Chiana can't explain it, but as they walk down the corridor they hear a voice calling "Captain Larraq" from the shadows.

They follow the voice into a small office and discover that it belongs to Gilina, the Peacekeeper technician Crichton encountered in "PK Tech Girl". Since Chiana wasn't part of the crew when they met Gilina, Crichton introduces them.

Gilina has been assigned to the station as part of a top-secret project, though she doesn't know what that project is. She also explains that she spotted Crichton in the officer's lounge, realized he had no chance of passing a genetic verification check, and rigged the security system.

Meanwhile, in another corridor, the man in leather orders Commander Javio to improve the efficiency of a mysterious "aurora chair."

Crichton explains Aeryn's condition to Gilina, who volunteers to get a sample from the medical technicians. He refuses to let her go alone until she points out that somebody else on the station might notice the impersonation. Chiana also leaves, heading for the bar to keep the chief of security busy buying her drinks.

The complications get complicated

Back on Moya, Aeryn takes a turn for the worse. Rygel visits -- probably hoping to go through her possessions -- but D'Argo talks him into leaving. The Luxan then consults with Zhaan for ideas on removing some of the toxins accumulating in Aeryn's system. Perhaps Moya's filtration systems can help?

In the bar, the crafty Commander Javio sends Lt. Heskon away so he can share a drink with Chiana himself. He offers her double whatever "Larraq" is paying her for her services, an offer Chiana pretends to entertain.

Meanwhile, Gilina has returned with a tissue sample. For once, Crichton has had a bit of luck -- the medtechs have produced the sample much more quickly than expected. Crichton thanks Gilina and leaves, presumably to round up Chiana.

Of course, Crichton's newfound luck can't hold. In the corridor, he encounters the man in leather, who calmly comments, "That man -- he is an impostor. Seize him." Crichton barely has time to hide the tissue sample before he is knocked unconscious and dragged away.

Scorpius rising

Crichton returns to consciousness to find himself strapped to a large, spinning chair. The leather-clad man introduces himself as "Scorpius" and casually dismisses Crichton's claims to be Captain Larraq. Crichton's energy signature is a clear sign he's not a Sebacean.

Scorpius intends to find out what Crichton knows by using the aurora chair to probe his memory. Crichton is defiant, poignantly suggesting that Scorpius "get stuffed." A patient man, Scorpius isn't bothered by this.

Meanwhile, Gilina and Chiana have learned about Crichton's capture, and are attempting to penetrate the security system and locate him. They can't do it from Gilina's office, though.

Not the comfy chair!

Probing Crichton's memories, Scorpius uncovers images of Captain Crais and quickly puts it together -- Crichton must be connected with Moya, the missing Leviathan ship Crais has been pursuing. He decides to contact Crais with the news that Crais' prey has been captured.

Gilina and Chiana have worked out a disguise for Chiana -- a spare tech uniform and a black wig.

Scorpius continues his probe, pushing through an unexpected neural block to unearth memories of Jack Crichton hiding wormhole equations in his son's mind. That leads Scorpius to inadvertently reveal the purpose of this secret base by accusing Crichton of coming to steal its wormhole research.

After a painful interrogation, Crichton is thrown into a cell to rest. There, he meets a cackling madman who appears to have a regular date with the aurora chair. The madman is even jealous that Crichton has been sitting in "his" chair. Ever one to take refuge in tacky genre television, Crichton collapses, muttering to himself, "Danger, Will Robinson...."

A bit of good news

Aboard Moya, the treatment to filter Aeryn's blood has temporarily stabilized her condition. D'Argo doesn't want Zhaan to tell her the treatment was his idea. As a fellow warrior, he feels he hasn't respected Aeryn's wishes and let her die alone, but Zhaan reassures him that Aeryn would prefer not to die.

Gilina and Chiana stroll casually through the corridors of the base, and slip into a computer access conduit. Gilina begins to explain how she's breaking to the system, but Chiana isn't interested in technical details.

Meanwhile, Captain Crais has arrived, and joins Scorpius in the interrogation room. Crais wants Crichton, and he wants him now. Scorpius won't let him go until he has the wormhole information, though, and breaking Crichton's will is proving difficult. Crais has a plan to put an end to the human's resistance.

After finding Crichton's cell, Gilina manages to patch into the audio channel of its surveillance system, allowing Crichton to communicate with his friends. He tells Chiana where the tissue sample is, and orders her to leave him behind and take the sample back to Moya. Their conversation is interrupted when Crais enters the cell.

Love among the torturers

Gilina can't understand why Crichton doesn't want to be rescued. She asks Chiana if his relationship with Aeryn is the reason. Chiana tries to reassure Gilina that Crichton is in love with her, and that once Aeryn is healed the crew of the Moya will return for both of them.

In the cell, Crais tells Crichton he's captured Moya. Suspicious, Crichton asks about the crew, and Crais tells him they're all in perfect health, "for now." Crichton knows he's bluffing, but pretends to give up anyway in order to buy Chiana time to escape.

Gilina rigs up a blind spot in the targeting systems that Chiana can escape through in the Prowler. Chiana heads for the hangar, talking her way past a guard while palming the tissue sample.

Meanwhile, Gilina provides a distraction by setting off a radiation warning. Most of the base personnel flee the supposedly hazardous hangar, but Commander Javio goes to direct the evacuation personally.

Chiana tries to slip by him with some quick technobabble, but can't fake it convincingly. Javio recognizes her voice, and draws his gun on her. In a brief struggle, Javio shoots the top off a power system, and Chiana turns the resulting pillar of fire on him.

Chiana stops a moment, intrigued by Javio's crispy corpse, then flees.

High praise indeed

The Prowler returns to Moya, and Zhaan introduces the new tissue into Aeryn's system.

When she regains consciousness, Aeryn weakly notes Chiana's disguise and mutters, "You make a worse Peacekeeper than Crichton." As she fades back into sleep, D'Argo remains to watch over her, taking her hand in his own.

Back at the base, Lt. Heskon reports the vanished Prowler to Scorpius. He's figured out that the alarm was a diversion, set by an accomplice on the base. Scorpius doesn't know who the accomplice is yet, but, he muses, "Crichton will tell us."

To be continued...
