QUOTABLE MOMENTS

Chairman Federov of the nation of Rostok calls Da'an. He announces he plans to hold a private auction featuring "something of enormous technological value."

Da'an doubts that the Taelons have any interest in technology of human origin. Federov warns, "Such assumptions, Da'an, may prove detrimental to you and your kind."

Liam explains to Da'an that after the collapse of the Russian Republic, Federov united the warring Russian crime factions. They set up a sovereign state – Rostok – in Antarctica, "backed by a massive nuclear arsenal."

Da'an excuses Liam. After Liam departs, Da'an senses something strange.

He extends his hand, palm out, and remembers touching hands with a human at some point in the past.

The guests arrive for Federov's auction. Among those in attendance are Liam and Renee.

Federov shows his guests an image of the item up for sale. It is a Taelon shuttle.

"Despite the exterior damage," he assures them, "the interstellar drives and navigational controls are very much intact." He also offers them a bonus item: a handheld energy weapon of unknown origin.

He announces that the bidding starts at ten billion North American dollars. Before anyone can bid, Sandoval arrives and announces, "This auction is in direct violation of the Earth-Taelon accord."

Federov refuses to recognize Sandoval's authority.

The agent informs the guests that any bid will be viewed as an act of aggression against the Taelons, and several prospective bidders depart

The Chairman invites his remaining guests to attend a demonstration of the weapon up for sale. The attendees file out.

Sandoval takes Renee aside, and warns her that participating in the auction may undermine the Companions' interests. She retorts, "They don't sign my paycheck, so don't confuse your loyalties with mine."

Federov introduces himself to Renee. He expresses an interest in sharing "a private moment" with her.

Renee is clearly charmed. Liam reminds her that Federov is a criminal.

Never bid against an angry Taelon

Back aboard the mothership, Zo'or demands that Sandoval recover the shuttle. Zo'or is willing to go to war with Rostok to recover the craft.

He asks about the shuttle's passengers. Sandoval surmises that they were members of the Resistance and were responsible for stealing the shuttle.

Sandoval shows Zo'or a recording of the auction. The Taelon starts at the sight of the weapon Federov offered for sale.

He orders Sandoval to contact Federov and make a preemptive bid for all the items, no matter the cost.

Rumors of her death - greatly exaggerated?

Augur tells Liam and Renee "The shuttle was brought down by an external blast of unknown origin." He reports finding two sets of tracks leading away from the crash site.

He also identifies a sample of an unknown substance that "definitely is organic."

Renee points out that the only Taelon shuttle unaccounted for is the one Lili Marquette flew to the mothership prior to her supposed death. According to the official record, the shuttle was destroyed during Lili's attempt to sabotage the mothership.

They turn their attention to bypassing Federov's security measures and locating the shuttle. Renee plans to visit Rostok – once inside, she intends to "leave the back door open" for Liam.

 Achilles, heel thyself

Sandoval tells Tate that they must recover the shuttle and plant a pair of Resistance corpses inside. To that end, he orders Tate to open anegotiations with Federov.

Sandoval shows Tate the control core fragment he retrieved from One Taelon Avenue. He explains that it is "the Taelons' Achilles heel."

 Ice spy

Renee portals into Rostok. Federov greets her at the portal.

Commander Kosygin interrupts their meeting. He reports finding no sign of the fugitives.

While Federov is distracted, Renee plants a small transmitter behind the portal's control console.

Later, Liam - disguised as on of Federov's men - arrives at the crash site by snowmobile. He bluffs his way past the guards and inspects the shuttle, paying special attention to the markings on the side of the ship.

He finds the frozen corpse of a Jaridian near the shuttle.

 When negotiation fails, try bribery

Back at Augur's, Liam reports his discovery to Renee. Augur tells her that the markings on the shuttle confirm it is Lili's ship.

Renee assumes that Lili used the shuttle’s autopilot to send it to the Jaridians before she died.

Sandoval visits Federov. He offers him $20 billion for the shuttle, the weapon, the Jaridian casualties, and the surviving Jaridians.

As an added incentive, Sandoval offers Federov $1billion in gold, a bonus he won't have to share with his regional commissars.

Sandoval explains that Federov must hand over the Jaridian casualties and the live fugitives directly to him. Federov agrees to Sandoval's terms.

Is Lili really pushing up the daisies?

Augur informs Liam of the results of his analysis of the substance found at the crash site. He found human blood – specifically Lili Marquette's – in the mix.

Liam is skeptical, reminding Augur that he identified Lili's body on the mothership. Augur insists that Lili is alive.

Renee visits Federov again. They bond over a game of chess.

She tells him she knows about the Jaridian passengers on the shuttle. Renee assumes Federov plans to sell the Jaridians separately in order to increase his profits.

She offers a counter-proposal. She tells Federov to go public with the Jaridians in order to "drive the Synod berserk."

She assures him the Taelons will pay any price in order to acquire the Jaridians. In exchange, Renee asks for a ten percent commission.

In a cave, the fugitive Jaridian tends to Lili, who is running a fever. She puts his hand to her abdomen, telling him, "I'm so sorry it turned out this way."

One of Federov's men finds their hiding place. Lili shoots him, and leaves with the Jaridian in search of a new haven.

Bait and switch?

Liam scans the mothership's records looking for clues about Lili's fate. He finds a Jane Doe bio-surrogate request from Sandoval's late Volunteer aide, Erika Vosser.

Vosser was in charge of the Resistance prisoners abducted during the state of emergency.

Liam and Augur agree to meet at the ruins of the warehouse where the prisoners were held.

The proof is out there

Da'an and Zo'or view Federov's announcement about the Jaridians. Da'an asks why Zo'or shot down the shuttle before ascertaining the Jaridians intentions.

Zo'or insists, "It is not within the Jaridians' nature to embrace a peaceful coexistence."

Shortly thereafter, Sandoval arrives to report that the shuttle up for auction is the one piloted by Lili Marquette. Zo'or storms off the bridge.

Sandoval watches Da'an. He calls Tate and asks whether the security team at the Washington embassy was reassigned.

Tate confirms that it was, telling Sandoval, "You've got him all to yourself."

Liam and Augur search the area around the warehouse. Augur scans for any sign of Lili's DNA.

During the search, Augur suggests that the Taelons sent Lili to the Jaridians as an envoy. Liam reminds him that Lili tried to destroy the mothership.

Augur refuses to abandon hope.

His optimism is immediately rewarded. They locate Lili's dog tags, complete with the message – "Find me" – she scratched into them before Sandoval sent her into space.

Under siege

Commander Kosygin and his men find Lili's former hiding place. Kosygin reports to Federov that he will soon have the fugitives in custody.

Liam and Augur try to locate Lili. Augur taps into the military band frequency of the Rostok snowmobiles' radios, picking up a message from Lili, who transmits her coordinates.

Shortly thereafter, Liam and Augur hear the sound of gunfire, then static.

Again with the hybrids

Kosygin delivers Lili and the Jaridian – named Vorjak – to Sandoval. They arrange delivery of Federov's payment, and Kosygin departs.

Sandoval welcomes Lili and Vorjak back to Earth. Vorjak congratulates Sandoval on choosing Lili as his envoy.

Vorjak explains that the Jaridians' accelerated metabolism is rendering his race sterile. The creation of a Jaridian – Human hybrid is the only way to save the Jaridians.

Sandoval suggests that they proceed with their work. Vorjak agrees. He asks, "And where is the Taelon?"

Taking pieces off the board

Da'an remembers more of his joining with Lili Marquette. The memories appear to disturb him.

He enters his regeneration cycle. Sandoval arrives, and removes the control core fragment from its shielding.

Da'an sits up abruptly, then goes inert.

Renee and Federov continue their chess game. She agrees to forgo her commission in exchange for the location where Sandoval is holding the fugitives.

Federov removes the queen from the chessboard. The coordinates of Sandoval's ship are printed on the bottom.

Federov gives the piece to Renee.

As she prepares to leave, Federov warns her that Sandoval's men are well armed. He gives her the Jaridian weapon recovered with the shuttle.

Lili Madonna

Lili's fever continues to rise. She tells Vorjak that due to Sandoval's manipulations, she can no longer survive on Earth.

Vorjak explains that the changes she underwent prepared her to carry his child. Sandoval tells Tate, "Captain Lili Marquette is mother savior to the Jaridians."

Lili's condition worsens. Vorjak insists that they need to infuse her with Taelon energy immediately, or else the child she carries will die. Volunteers wheel the unconscious Da'an into the hold.

Liam and Renee sneak onto the ship. Once aboard, they split up.

Lili tells Vorjak she is dying. He tells her Da'an's energy will stabilize her, and promises that their child will be born.

Da'an reaches his hand out to Lili.

Showdown!

Tate locates Renee, and aims his gun at her. Before he fires, Liam shoots Tate with the Jaridian weapon, and he falls over the railing.

The guards open fire on Liam and Renee. In the hold, Sandoval hears the sound of gunfire, and calls to his men for a status report.

Renee and Liam make short work of the guards on deck. They enter the hold.

Liam aims the Jaridian weapon at Sandoval. The agent points his skrill at Liam.

They advance on one another and fire at point blank range, knocking one another across the room.

Sandoval recovers first. He runs away.

The circle of life

Liam and Renee check on Lili. Her face has taken on Jaridian characteristics. She tells Liam this is "the final metamorphosis before I become a Jaridian mother."

Da'an challenges the Jaridian, telling him, "You come in peace, yet death remains rooted in your methods. Do you expect Captain Marquette to make the ultimate sacrifice for this hybrid child, this Jaridian solution?"

Lili answers, "No, he doesn't."

Da'an understands: "Then I have been anointed."

Lili explains to Liam and Renee, "This child is Jaridian and human. If it is to survive, then Da'an must be sacrificed."

Da'an appears to accept this. He lies back on his gurney to await the inevitable.
