James Doohan, best known as Star Trek's chief engineer "Montgomery Scott," clearly has no problem in the family engineering category. The 79-year-old actor and his wife announced Thursday they are expecting another child.
The baby, a girl, is due April 1. She will be Doohan's third child with wife Wende, 36 years his junior, and his seventh in all.
Both prospective parents said the news brought them both joy and surprise.
"I thought that was incredible, but I'm going to beat the family record," Doohan told the London newspaper The Mirror, referring to the fact that his own mother was born when her father was 72. "I couldn't be happier."
Wende's sentiments were similar.
"We always planned three children, but this pregnancy is a surprise," she told the Mirror. "I couldn't ask for anything more."
