12:00 PM Gattaca (HBO)

In a future where genetic engineering is destiny, non-engineered "natural child" Vincent (Ethan Hawke) must impersonate a man of better chromosomes in order to join the space program. This beautifully photographed film was shot in and around several Frank Lloyd Wright buildings for a retro-futuristic feel, and also stars Uma Thurman, Jude Law and Ernest Borgnine.

1:00 PM Dark Skies (SciFi) - Dreamland

John and Kim team up with billionaire recluse Howard Hughes in Las Vegas to stop the aliens from using casino winnings to finance an invasion.

1:20 PM Martians Go Home (Encore)

Painfully "wacky" effort revolves around a songwriter (Randy Quaid) whose jingles are so infectious they call hordes of annoying little green men.

5:35 PM Alien 3 (TNT)

Most somber of the Alien saga, this installment shows the apocalyptic hand of director David 'Seven' Fincher. Bereft of her adopted daughter, Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) is marooned on an icebound penal colony where the only tools available in her crusade against the aliens are a small population of tonsured convicts (including Charles S. Dutton) and a thriving local lead-refining industry.

Matthew has to use his alien powers yet again, this time solving a crime when Walt (Louis Gossett Jr.) is mistakenly arrested.

The first of the four feature-length episodes of the "Lexx" saga introduces the cast, centering around their theft of a unique starship and battle against His Galactic Shadow, a gnostic galactic emperor. Enormous fun!

11:55 AM Starship Troopers (Showtime Beyond)

In this 1997 production based on Robert Heinlein's novel, heavily armed forces from Earth go off-world to battle alien "bugs" bent on planetary conquest. Directed by Paul Verhoeven, who is otherwise known in the science-fiction scene as the director of 'Robocop' and 'Total Recall'.

12:00 PM Alien Nation (SciFi) - The Night of Screams

Mitch Pileggi (Skinner from The X-Files) guest stars as "Jean Paul Sartre" in this episode otherwise noteworthy for a serial killer plot.

Aliens help an aloof astronomer (Jodie Foster) work through her unresolved father-daughter issues, while a deeply religious Matthew McConaughey looks on in wide-eyed bewilderment. Also featuring James Woods, John Hurt and Tom Skerritt.

5:00 PM First Wave (SciFi) - Book of Shadows

Cade goes to Salem to see whether a murderous high school cheerleader is in league with aliens.

Acting on a tip from Crazy Eddie, Cade investigates a "dead man's curve" in Missouri that may have extraterrestrial overtones.

The best of the six movies focused on the original Star Trek cast. The crew stumbles across the barren planet where they had unwittingly stranded Khan, a genetically engineered villain played wonderfully by Ricardo Montalban, during the 1967 episode Space Seed. Khan plots revenge against Kirk and the rest of the crew.
