We find our heroes where we left them
last week -- in Binar's chambers on the hell planet Natoo, surrounded by guards held before the Goa'uld Apophis, an old enemy they had thought dead.
Apophis takes a few leisurely moments to trade insults with Daniel and take the team's communication device, then sends everyone back to the pit.
Once SG-1 are back in the uncomfortable prison quarters Apophis has so thoughtfully provided, they discuss the Goa'uld's return. When last they saw the System Lord, he had been tortured to death by a species of former slaves.
However, his body then fell into the hands of rival Sokhar, who built Natoo as a prison planet and, coincidentally, has the technology to raise the dead. As such, the resurrection of Apophis should come as no surprise.

To reign in Hell
Elsewhere, Apophis rallies the other prisoners held on Natoo, telling them he will soon destroy the "devil" himself, Sokhar, and free them all, presumably to cause trouble on other planets.
Back at Sokhar's headquarters, minions fill the System Lord (and the viewers) in on the adventures of Teal'C, who remained behind in the cargo transport orbiting Natoo and was last seen in a pitched ship battle. According to the minions, two Goa'uld fighters pursued the ship, but it escaped. Sokhar orders the minions to find the ship and prepare their fleet to go on full alert.
Apophis stares into the mirror at his ruined face -- perhaps an artifact of his previous violent mode of death -- and checks the progress of his own plans. A servant reports that 300 former inmates have agreed to serve him, while the rest have been banished to the surface as ordered.
Back in the pit, guards abuse O'Neill and take Samantha Carter to Apophis for interrogation. A cursory search reveals that Carter is wearing the Goa'uld memory technology that Martouf -- a relatively friendly member of the alien race -- gave her
last episode.
The way we were
In order to assist the technology's memory-enhancing function, or perhaps simply out of a sense of alien whimsy, Apophis feeds Carter the "Blood of Sokhar," a hallucinogenic liquid that causes cinematic flashbacks.
In the memory-hallucination, Carter's father, who is like her a prisoner on Natoo, shares her grief over her mother's death. He asks her how to get back to Earth, noting that he will likely die unless she gives him the escape route buried in her memory.
Luckily, Carter realizes this is a trick and focuses past the drug. This forces Apophis to fall back on more direct methods, like threatening to kill her father unless she tells him how to break through the Cheyenne Mountain Stargate and conquer the Earth. Sometimes, directness can be a virtue.
Back on the cargo ship, Teal'C transmits a recorded message to the Tok'ra, the human-friendly faction of the aliens to which Martouf belongs. As usual with Teal'C, we cannot tell how he feels about this apparent request for guidance (and possibly help), but he does not seem particularly pleased.
Apophis sends Carter back to the pit and has O'Neill brought in before him. Clearly, since the System Lord finds it necessary to keep interrogating people, Samantha did not tell him everything he wanted to know. Jack realizes this and trades more witty banter with the sinister alien, but Apophis grows quickly bored.
After Apophis applies the same memory-and-hallucination process to O'Neill, we are treated to a touching game of catch between father and son and a moral about handling weapons responsibly. Of course, as all fans of the original Stargate film know, Jack's son shot himself, causing his father untold grief.
The boy tells Jack they will be able to play some more if Jack reveals the Stargate coordinates of a planet allied with Earth.
Back in the pit, Carter comforts her dying father and has a chat with Martouf about his now-deceased mate Jolinar, who had once been imprisoned on Natoo herself.
Memory and other offensive weapons
Teal'C speaks to one of the Tok'ra about their plans to go back to Natoo and destroy the place, together with his friends in SG-1. He is understandably not happy about this, and so heads the shuttle back to Natoo if a rescue is required.
On the hell planet itself, Apophis sends O'Neill back to the pit and takes Martouf. In a tactic of remarkable cleverness -- or stupidity -- he brings Carter in as well; under the influence of the drugs, Martouf thinks she is Jolinar.
Always willing to change his line of questioning, Apophis tells Martouf she will die unless he learns the name of the planet where the Tok'ra are based. Martouf apparently gives in, telling the System Lord that the resistance are hiding out on Antack.
Sokhar's fleet is finally ready, so he orders the ships to cleanse Natoo of all insurgents.
In the pit, everyone relaxes minimally after Carter realizes that Martouf lied about the rebel base on Antack.
However, Daniel is now under the brain drain, where he sees himself at Stargate Command unpacking the effects left by his dead wife Sha're. In the hallucination, Jack gives him a pep talk , then thoughtfully tries to find out where they hid her child by Apophis.
Daniel wakes up screaming, only to hear Sokhar's voice echoing through the chamber demanding the attention of his assistant Binar. Apophis, who killed Binar
last episode as part of his scheme to take over Natoo, tells Sokhar that Binar is dead and requests a meeting to share the information gathered from SG-1.
Apophis then tells his chief bodyguard how he plans to lure Sokhar down to Natoo and kill him with sword he has hidden for that purpose.
While being led away, Daniel creates a scuffle and palms the communication module in the confusion.
The end of all ambitions
In space, Teal'C watches Apophis beam to Sokhar's ship, then gets a message from the planet below. It's Carter, using the communication module! They're alive!
Unfortunately, the Tok'ra fire a planet-busting weapon at Natoo anyway, leaving Teal'C with 12 minutes to save the team trapped on the ground.
Gas vents immediately spring up all over the planet, even in the pit itself. Thinking quickly, Carter uses one such vent as a bomb to open a gate, allowing our heroes to roam free.
Meanwhile, apparently unaware of all this, Apophis and Sokhar have a chat. Apophis says he wants to become lord of Natoo, and offers the information that the Tok'ra are on Antack as exchange. Unfortunately, Sokhar has already conquered Antack and knows there are no rebels there, so has Apophis led away for torture.
Back in hell, the team escapes the pit and goes in search of the transport rings in Binar's chambers. Once they arrive there safely, Teal'C intercepts the rings' matter stream and beams them directly to the shuttle.
During the torture session, Sokhar learns of Natoo's eminent destruction, distracting him from business long enough to let Apophis escape.
We see two pulses in the matter stream and then Natoo bursts into flame.
In a spaceport, Apophis watches the planet explode.
