The SG-1 team finds a new world where the entire population has lost its memory.
What Happened
The episode begins with O’Neill’s team coming through the Stargate into a large warehouse somewhere on alien planet P2Q-463. Attracted by the noise, a native couple -- Omer and Lyal -- arrives. After brief introductions, Omer explains that their planet, which they call "Vias," was affected by an event known as the "Vorlix" that caused planetwide amnesia.... (
Finally, I found the sets for this week's alien planet especially interesting. The combination of 1940s-era technology with the coal-burning smokestacks and zeppelin-like balloons made for a setting that was both unique and difficult to forget.
Quotable Moments
O’Neill: So you all just woke up one day and didn’t know who you were, how does that work?
O’Neill: Anyone get the feeling these folks don’t do a lot of traveling?
Daniel: [Am I] a doctor? No. Well, yes. I am a doctor of archeology, I study the past
O’Neill: I’m not saying that the first woman you have fallen for since Sha'Re isn’t a peach. But if she regains her memory you’ll be the first to go.
Daniel: You can be her again, you can forget
Insert Technology Here...
Fraiser: You all have the same identical obstructions in your temporal lobes and hippocampus sections of your brain. I’m not exactly sure what it is, except it is some sort of residue between your synapses.
Fraiser: But without her latent knowledge of biochemistry -- especially of the residual dargol -- I don’t know if we can reverse the disaster.
Carter: With her help we were able to synthesize a small amount of the enhanced dargol that caused the Vorlix and reintroduce it into her blood stream
Resolutions
"Past and Present" revisits the fate of Linea, the power-crazed "destroyer of worlds" introduced in last season's episode, "Prisoners."
Tune in Next Week
Carter must access her memories of Jolinar in order to save her father in "Jolinar's Memories," the first installment of a two-part episode.
