David Duchovny's popularity has helped sell many items on the eBay auction site, from autographed photos to copies of movie scripts. But the X-Files co-star evidently isn't popular enough to convince people to pony up even $5 for his senior thesis.

Before embarking on his acting career, Duchovny was on his way to becoming a professor of English literature. To complete his bachelor's degree at Princeton University, he wrote a senior thesis entitled "The Schizophrenic Critique of Pure Reason in Beckett's Early Novels."

An enterprising individual named "dmonie" recently put a copy of this paper up for auction on eBay, with an initial minimum bid of $5.

But although X-Files fans had a week to bid for the more than 150-page document, the auction closed with no bids having been received.

As a side note, the sale of this paper without Duchovny's approval would have constituted a copyright violation.
