Hasbro Gets Ready for Titan A

Not content to rest on its Star Wars license, Hasbro is developing toys for one of the summer's hottest science fiction properties, the animated feature Titan A.E.

The film is set after the destruction of the planet Earth by an alien race, and chronicles a young hero's quest to create a new home for humanity.

The hero -- Cale, voiced by Matt Damon -- is a reluctant galactic savior type in the tradition of Luke Skywalker. A blond, fresh-faced victim of circumstance, Cale searches the galaxy for the Titan, the spaceship his father hid years before.

As he searches, he's pursued by the Drej -- villainous aliens who look like a cross between an H.R. Giger creature and a Zentraedi battle pod from Robotech.

Coming soon to a galaxy near you

Hasbro has pulled out all the SF toy stops for this animated tale of high adventure. The Titan A.E. line will feature figures, ships and prop replicas from the film.

The lights, sounds and interactive elements at the core of Hasbro's Star Wars toys permeate the entire line, from the basic "entry-level" action figures all the way through the spaceship play sets.

The toy line will feature several variant Cale action figures. The most accurate representation of the character as he appears in the film will be packaged along with a spaceship called the Valkyrie.

Other Cales will be costumed in line with the accessories accompanying the figure. There will also be action figures of several of the movie's supporting characters.

Enter the sidekicks

Every heroic tyro worth his salt needs a tutor. Cale's mentor is Korso, a knowledgeable if slightly disreputable character who appears to be a cross between Ben Kenobi and Han Solo.

Although the action figure looks something like an animated version of Bruce Willis, Korso will be voiced with square-jawed gravitas by Bill Pullman.

Rounding out the heroic ranks is Akima, the requisite female adventurer. She appears to be a Princess Leia type with a low-slung blaster and a healthy dose of girl power.

Significantly, the Akima figure will come packaged with the "Turbo Surge Phoenix" space fighter.
