STEWART IN STAR TREK X

Patrick Stewart confirmed this week that he would return as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the tenth Star Trek film. The report will surely send a wave of relief through Trek fans everywhere -- refuting substantial rumors around Paramount that Stewart would not be in the film.

"The story's being developed, yes," Stewart said in a recent interview with SCIFI.com. "And my character is in the story."

Although recent rumors say that one of the principals will die in the movie, Stewart isn't talking.

"A director has not been selected," he said. "We're really at the very earliest stages of creating a possible story for this film, and perhaps in a couple of months ... I will have more to say."

Meanwhile, the official Star Trek website confirmed reports that screenwriter John Logan, who did a rewrite on Gladiator, is working on a draft of the script.

Logan is best known for writing the Golden Globe award-winning 1999 TV movie RKO 281, about the making of Orson Welles' Citizen Kane.

Star Trek X -- as the as-yet-untitled film is known -- is set for a Thanksgiving 2001 release.
