PAM GRIER GOING TO MARS

Courtney Love has revealed that Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Clea Duvall (Girl, Interrupted) and Joanna Cassidy (Who Framed Roger Rabbit) have joined the cast of John Carpenter's new film Ghosts of Mars.

The Lovely, Talented Pam Grier

I pity the alien, criminal, or miscellaneous future fool who gets in Ms. Grier's way.

The three join Love along with Ice Cube (Three Kings) and Jason Statham (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) in the sci-fi horror flick.

Does 'The Black Hole' Still Suck?

"It's a really cool cast," Love said on her band Hole's website, adding that she has to work out four hours a day to prepare for the part.

Love has described the film as "the only girl western I've seen . . . ever." Earlier reports on the film's script said it would be dominated by women.

The casting of three actresses, two who got famous playing strong women, goes to confirm that.

Set 175 years in the future in a dusty frontier mining town on Mars, the story follows dangerous criminal Desolation Williams (Cube) as Martian police (including Love) transfer him from the small town to a prison in the Martian capitol.

Elsewhere, mining has disturbed the ruins of an ancient Martian civilization and unleashed a ghostly defense system designed to destroy all non-indigenous life on Mars.
