In the wake of confirming that Christopher Lee is indeed joining the cast of the next Star Wars movie, Lucasfilm Thursday announced that Jimmy Smits is also going to the Old Republic -- as Bail Organa.
Internet sources had previously reported that Smits had signed onto the as-yet-unsubtitled Episode Two, now filming in Australia, but the actor's management denied the story at the time.
However, while Smits' agents were downplaying the reports, the chance to become part of the Star Wars saga was apparently too strong to resist.
"Completely independently, his agents let me know that he would love to be involved in a Star Wars project," Lucasfilm casting director Robin Gurland said in a press release.
Gurland said she had considered Smits for the role of Bail Organa, senator from the peaceful planet Alderaan and presumed adoptive father of Princess Leia, even before the reports started breaking.
