FRANKFURT (Reuters) - John Travolta wants to make some improvements to his Battlefield Earth flop inspired by Scientology before it is released on video in Germany, the movie's distributor said on Friday.
The sci-fi thriller, which was slammed by critics following its May release, will hit the shelves at video stores next year rather than in this quarter, German media group Intertainment said.
"Following the movie's poor reception in the U.S., Travolta wants to make a few improvements in the post-production of the film," Intertainment Chief Executive Ruediger Baeres told Reuters.

The delay in releasing the movie will diminish Intertainment's profits this year. This and problems with release times of other movies forced the company to issue a profit warning to investors.
Travolta, Hollywood's leading follower of the Church of Scientology, stars in Battlefield Earth as a leader of a manipulative race of aliens bent on world dominance. The movie is based on a 1980 book by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard.
Germany refuses to recognize Scientology as religion and accuses it of trying to exploit members for financial gain.
In 1997, the government placed Scientology under official scrutiny, provoking an outcry in the United States where many prominent celebrities are Scientology followers.
