BAFTA, whose members include actors, directors, producers and writers, is a non-profit organization that promotes work among those associated with the British film and television industry. Kubrick lived in Hertfordshire, England, for many years, and died there in March.
Among his many films, Kubrick directed and co-wrote 2001: A Space Odyssey. 2001, released in 1968, was Kubrick's highest grossing film, pending the results of his latest movie, Eyes Wide Shut. Kubrick was nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay for the film.
