10. Jupiter by Cassini

We've seen a lot of great
images of Jupiter in recent years, from both the Cassini and Galileo spacecraft.
This one is special because it's a preview of sorts.
Cassini, now en route to
Saturn, took this picture as it approached Jupiter. Astronomers took time to
capture several long exposures, to make what they say is the best global view
of Jupiter's colorful clouds ever captured.
We can only hope the pictures
of Saturn in 2004 are as delightful. And it looks like they will be. Cassini
recently snapped a photo
of Saturn. Though from far away, the latter image suggests there will be
plenty of pictures contending for this list next year.
