Hubble’s New Eyes

There was nothing unusually stunning about the first photos taken with the new, more powerful camera installed on the Hubble Space Telescope. Except for one thing: They came.

Imagine, a bunch of astronauts up there bolting a new camera onto an observatory that orbits our planet. This is dangerous stuff! The flexibility built into this venerable observatory that allows engineer/astronauts to get under its hood made the first photos incredibly special.

And they are awfully pretty, too.

Hubble's new Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) promises a whole new era of even more detailed science and art from the decade-old observatory.
