The universe is a dangerous place, in the grand sense. Galaxies collide, stars explode, planets are destroyed.

Earlier this year, astronomers told of a star that's been undergoing serious outbursts. Rho Cassiopeiae may erupt again at any time, they say, and the event might be visible to backyard skywatchers.

In this view by David Aguilar, an eruption is depicted as it might appear to a hypothetical planet orbiting the star. [Story]
