Shadow Moons

If billions of planets populate our galaxy, then there are arguably a lot more moons, astronomers told SPACE.com earlier this year. Some might harbor life. But because technology doesn't allow detection of extrasolar moons -- their host planets can just barely be found -- nobody has thought much about these satellite otherworlds. [Story]

This illustration, by John Whatmough, depicts a fantastic hypothetical moon around some other planet orbiting a faraway star. [Find more of Whatmough's art at www.extrasolar.net.]
