STARRY NIGHT'S DEEP SPACE EXPLORER WINS PRESTIGIOUS PARENTS' CHOICE GOLD AWARD FOR CHILDREN'S SOFTWARE

New York (April 2, 2002) - Starry Night, manufacturer of the world's most realistic astronomy software, today announced that its desktop space exploration software, Deep Space Explorer, has been awarded a Parent's Choice Gold Award in the software category for ages twelve and older from the Parents' Choice Foundation, the nation's oldest and most respected authority on children's media.

"Win/MAC compatible Deep Space Explorer software enables astronomy enthusiasts to turn their desktops into futuristic spacecraft by providing a stunningly accurate model of the Universe. Deep Space Explorer is the first program for the home user that accurately models the wonders of our universe in all its three-dimensional glory," said Ted Leckie, President. "Spectacular effects include a special 'spaceship' mode that enables users to travel hundreds of millions of light years from Earth." Application highlights include a new database of 30,000 galaxies compiled by world-renown astronomer Brent Tully, never before available in a desktop astronomy program, and over one hour of video narration by Star Trek: Deep Space 9 actress Chase Masterson, covering 18 different space topics such as the Big Bang, Dark Matter and Black Holes. "We are honored to have our Deep Space Explorer software recognized by such a respected organization as the Parent's Choice Foundation," said Leckie.

The Parent's Choice Awards recognize children's products in categories that include toys, audio, books, illustration, computer software, magazines, videos, television programming and video games. The Parent's Choice Gold Award is the foundation's highest honor and is bestowed upon a small percentage of products chosen from thousands of entries.

Founded in 1978, Parents' Choice Foundation is the nation's oldest not-for-profit evaluator of children's products. The Foundation's mission is to provide parents with information to participate wisely in their children's learning. Parents' Choice has no commercial ties, which allows it to maintain its twenty-three year tradition of an independent voice. Since its inception, the foundation has donated more than 425,000 books, toys, computer software, and videos to schools, libraries, and pediatric hospitals via corporate grants and the generosity of public-spirited volunteers.
