Constellations
Aquarius
A sun-like star is seen dying in this image of the constellation Aquarius, 500 light-years from Earth. A helix nebula was produced in this final stage of stellar evolution. Aquarius -- visible in the fall in the Northern Hemisphere and spring in the Southern Hemisphere -- is one of the oldest known constellations. Also known as the Water Bearer, Aquarius ruled over much of the sky known as the "sea" in ancient Babylon.
