Moon Halo
A lunar halo is formed in the troposphere through the refraction of moonlight (which is reflected sunlight) by ice crystals in upper thermosphere. Stan Richard, a public television engineer from Iowa, took this picture of a moon halo in the winter of 2000 when there was an "ice fog." Click to enlarge.
