Late in June 2001, southern winter transitioned to spring and a wind began to blow. A comparitively small gust of dusty atmosphere was spotted by MGS (left). By the end of July the entire planet, except for the south polar cap, was covered by the dusty shroud (right). Planetary wind storms like these are common on parched Mars. Click to enlarge.
