SCIM arrives back home with its valuable cargo in January 2011, the dust and gas samples having been safely stored in a small sample return capsule after leaving Mars. Only this sample return capsule re-enters Earth's atmosphere, and the rest of the SCIM spacecraft is deflected away from Earth.
