SCIM will make a single flythrough of the Martian atmosphere, to an altitude of 37 km (23 miles). The flythrough speed is 6.3 km/sec (14,000 mph), and the entire aeropass takes less than 10 minutes. Dust will be collected on the sides of the craft in aerogel dust collectors, and atmospheric gas will be collected through a small opening in the nose of the spacecraft.
